So proclaims the Mail on it's front page. Is this just electioneering from the mail or does ED have a problem?

Plus some doubt of his capabilities from the business sector:

And Boris has been plotting to oust Cameron if he does not win the election, for years. Not to mention Theresa May.
Whoever loses the election will no longer be their party's leader for very long. So of course there is manoevring in the shadows by member of both parties. I am sire that if Miliband loses thenhe will qickly be removed and replaced. Ditto Cameron.

I'm sure if I sent an army of photographers to follow just about anyone around day after day, I'd get loads of pictures of him/her looking silly. Consequently, anyone who imagines a laughable bacon-buttie picture of Miliband is a valid political comment is being ridiculous.

"If Cameron is trying to wriggle out of a debate it is not Red Ed but Nigel Farage who he should fear. Farage can hold his own in any debate unlike Ed who can't even eat a bacon buttie."
It is Miliband, not Farage, that Cameron would face in a head-to-head debate. And your comment summarises very nicely, I believe, the reason why the Tories are reluctant to go with it:
namely, that it is far better for them to claim that inability to look suave and sophisticated while eating a bacon butty is the be-all and end-all of political leadership, or the ability to debate intelligently. Anything Ed does on TV would be bound, however, mildly, to give the lie to that
