Hi All,

Just trying to lighten the mood here a little :-)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2976611/The-loneliest-job-world-Meet-man-takes-care-Yellowstone-National-Park-winter.html

This guy takes on the almost impossible job of looking after Yellowstone National Park in the winter.

He has no TV but a radio plus he is online. Do you think you could do this job?

I would love the solitude plus the park looks stunning.

I'd do it if I had an 'auntie' to darn my socks (etc.) for me.....

Yabba dabba doooo!
I wouldn't mind being alone at all, I am perfectly happy with my own company, but I would miss my family too much, and they would miss me too much.

If I was alone in the world, I could do the job in a heartbeat - I would have a novel written by the time the snowploughs got to me.
/// Tough work: During the day, Fuller works to keep about 100 buildings free from snow, since they can collapse under the several feet that accumulate every year. He has developed a method of sawing the snow into blocks and pushing them off the roof, which makes the job a little easier ///

I find it hard to believe that one man can keep 100 buildings free from snow of this magnitude.

Like Andy-hughes, if I had no one here who needed me, I'd do it more than happily. I might not be physically strong enough, though.
the shining and jack nicholson immediately sprang to mind ...

There was a documentary about this guy on TV a couple of years ago - very interesting.

He's not alone, he has his cat. Wonder if he wants another one.

this man hasn't got a radio

There is someone living nearby - but she's his sister and they fell out and haven't spoken for 30 years.
he would make an interesting Aber.

Lovely story, and an enviable way to live. It's only lonely if you feel lonely...obviously he doesnt.
Definitely a lot of hard work involved. Note: it's just his "part* of Yosemite that he's responsible for.
As long as I had books, a radio, fabric and wool...(not for sock darning)..I could cope quite happily for a long winter.........

Perhaps we can lure him onto AB and discuss a job swap next winter...☺
I remember watching a docummentary about this guy a while ago .

I love watching documentaries about the inhabitants of this park.

The only thing i wonder about is what happens when he / if he has a medical emmergency ?

This chap was featured in a wonderful documentary about Yellowstone last year on the BBC. I hope they repeat it again soon !

It showed him climbing up to the roofs and sawing away the huge chunks of snow with a massive great serrated sort-of knife. If you can find this on Youtube, or the BBC Iplayer, its well worth viewing.

Just the kind of program that the BBC make so well, for which I am more than happy to pay my licence for !
Didn't Jack Kerouac write about a similar lonely job in 'On the road'?
