Just hoping nobody could be so cruel x
I think most of the 'business' of Crufts is cruel, and it is just that, a business. I'm under no illusions that some of those competitors have emotional attachments to their dogs, they're simply money makers.

Already on FB I have seen pictures of a Canadian competitor beating his dog in the car park, and there's calls for a US competitor manhandling her dog in the ring to be disqualified.
I just read that, B00. She kept picking her dog up by the tail and neck.
Well I guess it is time for me to be off - have a good day all.
oops wrong thread - hope the police nail whoever did this.
Those that do these dog shows are a funny lot, I wouldn't put anything past them. I have a dog but I'm not into all that dog show cobblers.
Big money involved I bet a lot of these animals have horrible lives. Its like showing horses, lots of cruelty but its hard to Police.
Seems strange that the owners wish to make it clear that it has nothing to do with fellow exhibitioners.

Like all other competitive events these days, there is much money involved in Crufts, so wouldn't one think that it could be a fellow competitor that had committed this horrible crime, what would a member of the public gain from such a thing?
common sense would dictate that only a competitor would hope to gain from such an act. This dog was very valuable as a Stud dog so his demise would be to the advantage of someone with a similar dog.

Although I am sure the culprit - if traced - will turn out to be a jealous dog breeder, but I still leave room never to underestimate the sheer stupidity of the general public - bad behaviour often requires no motive whatever.
I blame ISIS.
I was shocked that the general public are allowed to mingle with the dogs . They should be closed off from the public with a badge system to get in.

No it doesn't, you go blaming fellow exhibitors you'll suddenly find you never get a dog placed again!
Family used to do it years ago but gave it up as it was becoming far too incestuous!

/// I was shocked that the general public are allowed to mingle with the dogs . They should be closed off from the public with a badge system to get in. ///

Crufts is not just for the convenience of the show dog owners, it is also for the fee paying general pubic, most who are themselves committed dog owners, so why should they be disallowed from having contact with the show dogs?

When not in the arena the dogs are kept in open cubicles, so surely it wouldn't difficult for a constant watch to be kept on these cubicle via CCTV cameras.
For once, I agree with AOG. 99.99% of dog owners, inc those showing at Crufts, dearly love their dogs - anyone who saw Clare Balding's interviews on Ch4 could see that. Like any barrel of apples, there can be the occasional rotten one and the sooner that the person(s) who did this are identified and arrested, the better.
I think top level dog showing is a cut-throat world with probably quite a lot of shady goings on. Years back I used to show cats and it was similar. Even the judge on best in show Sunday night made a tongue in cheek remark that the reason he picked the Scottie - which in my opinion was the dog with least personality in the final ring - was nothing to do with him being Scottish!
It's also become a major international affair. My money on this particular sad case is that the culprit is another breeder/competitor.

Prudie, agree 100%, when family packed it in 25+ years back the use of Laxatives and Sedatives was not uncommon!
