It was learnt earlier this week that police investigating incidents of alleged abuse involving former TV weatherman Fred Talbot have submitted a report to Scottish prosecutors.

A spokesman for the Crown Office said a report was handed into its Dumfries office relating to incidents involving a 65 year old man.

The offences are said to have occurred between January 1968 and January 1981.

Thanks Jomlett...I did see this a few days ago but was waiting for the sentencing to take place before commenting.

We have discussed the issue of whether to publicise these kind of cases before they go to court, but, on the evidence of this case, and others, it would seem that seeing paedophiles being exposed in the press, jogs people memories of other, older events.

We have seen this with Rolf Harris and probably with Max Clifford, and now it appears to be the case with Fred Talbot.

Suzanne Goddard QC, defending, said there was little that could be said in mitigation. She said Talbot had lost a stone in weight during his time in custody but was “accustoming himself” to life in jail.

Goddard said: “He knows he must now receive a custodial sentence. He has come to terms with that.”



...for £500 per hour or so that's some defence!

If there was any justice he should rot in a jail equally as long as he avoided punishment for his heinous crimes . A vile man.

Ummmm...well, we didn't years ago but at last we appear to be doing so now, which is to be welcomed.

There is a big trial involving a former Church of England Bishop just about to start...its seems that rank and position is no barrier when it comes to being a paedophile.

he was charged with offences against 14-year-olds, the same as Talbot, but I can't remember if he was convicted. I don't think assaults on 14-year-olds indicate paedophilia, but the meaning of the word seems to be changing.

yes, according to Wikipedia he was convicted of offences against females aged 14 to 19.

I thought paedophile meant the victim was anyone under the age of consent?

But there is a grey area around any male whose early sexual experience involved them and their partner(s) being underage. There is what I regard as a double standard around that.

If somebody's earliest attraction was towards their equally under aged peers, one assumes that they "grow out of it". But what if their personality gets 'stuck' in that state? I've no sympathy for the likes of Savile but wonder if this was at the root of it? A deejay has to be something of a superannuated teenager to be anywhere near effective, after all.
