I have been called a grumpy old fart by some people this weekend. People may still think that after this post. However, please stay with it till the end and I hope you'll see where I'm going with it. On Monday April 17th 1989 at 11 a.m., I laid a spray of flowers along the goal line at the Kop End of Anfield. We were among the first to do so, as only one line of flowers had been laid there before us. Why would a staunch United fan like me do that? Because I had watched it all unfold live on TV on the Saturday. It was very upsetting, so me and my wife decided to pay our floral tribute. They were ordinary young people; some yet to reach adulthood. That registered with me. Terrible. We had physically done something to show our sympathy. Cut to Buck House, and the Queen finds out about Hillsborough through tv/newspapers/equeries, whatever. She sends a telegram of sympathy to the people of Liverpool. What's next on her agenda? A garden party? Lunch with an ambassador? Walk the corgis in the garden? People didn't fight in WW2 for the monarch. They fought because they didn't want Nazis marching into their town/city murdering and wrecking. The King meant nothing to the men who fought in WW2. I know. I knew lots of veterans who told me that. I think the monarchy is a waste of our money.
The Queen is cold and unemotional and sends sympathy messages as a matter of course.

All are entitled to be for or anti monarchy but your post was totally unnecessary and crassly disrespectful .If you feel it is smart to refer to her as" an old bat" then you get the contempt of others irrespective of their pro or anti stance about the monarchy. I have more respect for anti monarchists who do not use their freedom of speech to abuse our monarch.
There are some who would quite easily show disrespect by expressing their misgivings about the behaviour of some fans at Hillsborough but have more dignity to do so.
