Three judges sacked and another resigned for watching porn.Do they not realise that their IT accounts are monitored, is it any wonder that so many high profile people's cases (Cyril Smith?) are dropped?

No, the porn was legal.

The problem is they were using 'company' computers by the look of it.

One wonders why the sites are not banned in the first place like any other company would do!

I'm not sure you can reasonably link these minor 'judges' watching porn with the very serious matter of corruption of Justice as in Smith et als case.

For such 'learned' people it does beggars belief that they did not get the accounts would be monitored.

Clearly they don't understand IT and are certainly therefore not fit to judge IT cases.

It's possible that the judges had found their way around the blocks -- which is possible eg with proxy servers and the like. Or the websites just weren't blocked because, well, no-one had thought to do it? Not impossible.

what worries me is that we have people judging who are too dim to not get caught porn surfing.

The Civil Service actually has very tight web restrictions, apparently -- to the extent that it might even be impossible for Civil Servants to get onto Answerbank! At least through normal means. So my guess is either that they found a way around these restrictions or it's only the "junior" grade civil servants subject to such tight restrictions.

Surely companies bar these sites anyway don't they ? The one I work for even bars places that seem quite innocuous, claiming I'm going to an adult site, when, for example, it was a link from here. e.g. I was recently barred from looking at a kitchen photo !

It is likely that judges are granted wider access to the web than scribes. They will say they need it to "research" into the issues they are called upon to judge.

Yes, perhaps it was silly of the "minnow" Judges, but a sacking offence?..NO. Just perhaps a quick chat " it has been brought to my attention" sort of chat.

If all the Judges and Medical Consultants had been sacked for doing "silly things", then there would be no senior judiciary or medical specialists in office.

Judges know what a case is about before it is heard in Court and after each session are provided with Transcripts of proceedings. Hence they are able to look over their half-glasses and appear to be making notes whilst doing a Crossword Puzzle or even viewing dubious sites on a Laptop.

They may Not know a lot about IT but are up-to-date on sex matters; as Rowan Atkinson illustrated many years ago.:-

easy - your employer can dictate what you do in company time and how you use a company laptop

it is common to say - no porn.

It is one of the reasons why giving your password/access number to someone else to use is a disciplinary offence in itself - because you cant then find out/ audit/ trail who has done what

nowadays accessing porn will get you fired in the NHS.
Most Hospital nets warn you now if you TRY.
