Everyone said that about their last revision, then they grew to like it.

The web has completely changed over the last 8 years. More people visit the web from mobile devices, now. The new site is built to be better to more people.

My instant reaction is that I don't like it, but it is not a mess. It is just different, and people, the older they get, hate change, even if it is just a typeface.

Those who don't like it are going to do a lot of complaining over the next year, because more and more of the biggest sites are going to go the same way.

It's been change to be more "responsive" - i.e it should work equally well (or badly, depending on your point of view) on PCs and tablets and phones of various display sizes, densities, and aspect ratios.

The site is built so that the BBC does not have to design a desktop and a mobile version of all their site. The one build will display differently on different devices. That saves them a lot of time and a lot of money. They will not revert to the 2010 design no matter how bad the feedback, because it is technically a very bad way to do it in 2015.

As Gromit says it will save time and money. What I find disingenuous is carrying out a survey on the new site when they know they will not revert to the old style. It just seems to me it's being done to show us the BBC is concerned about what the licence payer thinks, as if.

Of course they won't revert to the old style but they will presumably look at the feedback to identify trends in constructive comments.
I suppose if everyone replied to say "its awful bring back the old style" they might rethink, but that isn't going to happen (I hope)

The change to a responsive site will make the BBC on-line experience better for more people, so it definitely isn't sabotage.

Over the years I've considered every change of BBC News webpage style to be a degradation, but one gets used to it. Have to say this is no exception. The layout seems screen width rather than grouped articles/functions. No doubt it was on someone's objectives to make a change, any change. It has been available to viewing prior to today. I checked it out once and went back to what was the current one at the time.
