This was always touted as some kind of urban myth but it seems that it is true. Waitrose aids and abets the already too high house inflation problem. So first time buyers will find it even more difficult to but a home. And they will have to pay more for their weekly shop !
Look for a home near an Lidl would seem to be the answer.

ladybirder....not long ! I started out with Puccini and Verdi, like most opera lovers I suppose. I still think Puccini is a genius. But I shared a flat with a German student in the mid to late 70's and he introduced me to Mahler.
From there it was but a small step to Wagner ! I have been able to see a complete Ring Cycle, and that was at Covent Garden in the late 80's. It was the famous "Time Tunnel" production from Komische Oper in Berlin. All the Wagner greats of the time were singing....John Tomlinson, Gwyneth Jones, etc.
I also saw "Siegfried" at Longborough, in the Cotswolds, which was fun....picnicking on the lawn during the dining interval ! Wonderful evening, and if you live nearby, I would recommend a visit. Its Glyndeborough on the cheap !

Mikey, we often go to Verona where performances involving huge numbers of players take place in the open air upon a vast stage in the 2000 year old Roman arena. I would highly recommend it – it is spectacular - but if you go pay for a proper seat. A spot on the ‘steps’ is not to be recommended!

Naomi....thanks for the info. Verona is on my bucket list ! I have heard that the acoustics in the amphitheatre are superb. I want to see Aida, with real elephants !
I have a video at home of Tosca at Verona, with Eva Marton. I was lucky to see her in Elektra, at Covent Garden, and she was wonderful.
A definite Can Belto !
