At this time officers have uncovered no evidence whatsoever of any imminent threat to the communities of Rochdale or indeed the U.K.
Officers are working closely with Rochdale Borough Council, local partners, and faith leaders as part of the ‘Prevent’ initiative.
Assistant Chief Constable Ian Wiggett, said: “What is obviously concerning is why a family were seemingly attempting to take very young and vulnerable children into a war zone; such a volatile and dangerous environment is no place for them whatsoever.
“We have commenced an investigation to try and establish their reasons for travel and as this is a live investigation - which is very much in its infancy - we are not in a position to comment further.
“One of our primary concerns is the safety and welfare of the young children and we are working with partners to ensure a full safeguarding strategy is in place upon their return to the U.K. //
"No evidence of any imminent threat to the communities of Rochdale" unless of course you are a small child who have recently been under threat many times and in more ways than one.

Naomi...that last comment is not worthy of you, and you know it !
What would you have all the Muslim fathers do .....renounce their religion, just in case one of their sons grows up and wants to be a terrorist ?
What about all the Jewish parents in Britain...should they renounce their
faith as well ? After all, their sons might grow up and want to join the Israeli Army and kill innocent Palestinian children.
The same could be said of Catholics. My father brought me up as a Catholic but I have shown no interest whatsoever in taking up the Armalite in anger against my Protestant neighbours.
There is no evidence that the Councillor brought up his son to be a would-be terrorist. His local Iman might have had an input, or maybe our old friend Anjem Choudray perhaps.
To suggest that a father is at fault because of his religion is offensive and ludicrous.
I guess we might have to put-off our engagement for another week or two.

No, I don’t ‘know it’. I didn’t suggest that the boy was raised as a would-be terrorist, but I’d hazard a guess that he was raised Muslim in which case he’s been taught to believe that Islam is paramount. Your comparison of Islam with other religions, as always, simply illustrates your ignorance of Islam.
Do put the engagement off. The diamond wasn’t up to much anyway.

/// AOG...my response would be exactly the same if he was the son of any Councillor. The sins of the son are not reflected in the sins of the father ! ///
Now all those who have read your continuous posts which will take any opportunity to down cry UKIP, will know that is not perfectly true, and well you know it.
/// You have used this post as a way of attacking Labour. If it had been the son of a Tory Councillor, you would have found another news item to post on ! ///
In what way have I done that, I have only headlined my thread in the same way that he has been described in almost all the media outlets?
/// We are in the middle of a very lively Election, the closest Election for many, many years. ///
Oh I always thought that according to you this was a Labour win certainty, what has now made you change your mind?
/// There are lots of issues that need debating, and this isn't the most important AOG ! ///
Who said it was and who said this had anything to do with the election, I posted this because the News section has got rather boring recently with all this political toing and froing.

I have got news for you Naomi !
As a boy brought up in the 50's and 60's, I was taught that being a Catholic was paramount too, have no doubt about it. I was brought up with no shades of grey.
Being anything other that a Catholic was completely unconscionable. I would go straight to hell if I even juggled with the idea of being anything else.
To change to being a Jew or a Muslim was just too terrible to think of but choosing to be a Protestant was beyond the Pale altogether !
Islam doesn't have a monopoly on strident self-believe. All religions are based on the irrational belief in illogical circumstances. But to single out Islam is not fair at all.

When you read of the atrocities carried out in the name of Islam how can you possibly compare that religion with other religions?

And in the Guardian:
*** A Labour councillor’s son who was detained in Turkey on suspicion of trying to enter Syria illegally is being flown back to the UK, it has been claimed. ***
And the BBC:
*** A Labour councillor's son, held in Turkey on suspicion of trying to enter Syria illegally is expected to return to the UK. ***
And the London Evening standard:
*** Waheed Ahmed: son of Labour councillor 'arrested after trying to cross Syria border' ***
Need I go on?

What I find difficulty in understanding is he & others with him were arrested in Turkey, for what exactly ( it is easy to say they were there with the intention of joining terrorists in Syria but to my knowledge they weren't actually doing anything wrong ). Does this mean that if I wished to have a holiday in Turkey I would have difficulty ( or would I have to be Asian to be in trouble ?) Don't get me wrong I know we have to be careful with our own borders at stake but has someone made a bit of a faux pas with this case ?
Mikey, here's what the Koran says about non-muslims:-
◾Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them(2:191)
◾Make war on the infidels living in your neighboorhood (9:123)
◾When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them (9:5)
◾Kill the Jews and the Christians if they do not convert to Islam or refuse to pay Jizya tax (9:29)
◾Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable (3:85)
◾The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them (9:30)
◾Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticise Islam. (5:33)
◾The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque (9:28)
◾Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies
(22:19)
◾Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them (47:4)
◾The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them (8:65)
◾Muslims must not take the infidels as friends (3:28)
◾Terrorise and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an (8:12)
◾Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorise the infidels (8:60)
does your catholic text say broadly the same?
