Having so vociferously ruled out any deal with the SNP , is there any way he can renage on this after the electon? Surely a coalition with the SNP, horrific though it may be, is the only way Ed can get into no 10.

as Cameron commented - we the electorate voted in a coalition government so it would be odd if people went around moaning

Yes. I'm sure there are ways of doing deals without actually doing deals.
It's like when politicians say 'We have no plans to '
Which means they've talked about it at length, intend on doing it, but haven't formally documented it or drawn up the gantt chart yet, just so they can legitimately deny having 'plans' to do it.

It depends on how many seats Labour gets in England, really. At current poll levels you would expect the Lib Dems to get around 20 seats. If Labour managed to get 300 (still a possibility) then a Lab-Lib-SDLP coalition is on the cards, with no need for the SNP to get involved.
With just about all results remaining possible, ruling the SNP out of at least a formal deal doesn't mean Ed Miliband has no chance of becoming PM. A smaller one, certainly.
