Vote for this Labour candidate because it is said he has the blessing and prayer of religious scholar Sheikh Bahauddin, believed to be a direct relative of the prophet Mohammed.

"If the anonymous text messages are discovered to come from Labour campaigners and they lead to a Labour win, there could be a criminal prosecution and render any win void."
didn't george bush once say he had a mandate from god to bomb iraq?
Is the question about being endorsed, the possible texting by Labour or both?
Iti s a false claim. Unless it can be proved to have been made by the Labour Party, then nothing can be done.
Tory Dirty Tricks Brigade at work - lapped up by Nasty Party Sycophants of course.
what does it say about Labour if they have to use religious threats to get votes?
I gather some businessmen have denied signing those letters in the Telegraph supporting the Tories. Sounds like the same principle at work. Could they make a Tory victory void, I wonder?
seems an odd tactic to use, when the devout are being told that only allah can decide the rules by which you live your life, and not some politician of left or right.
This nonsense and the Nigel Farage Dr Who stuff would seem to indicate that either parts of the press or our Leading Answerbankers are getting bored with the campaign. Not long to go now folks :-)
jno if every falsehood and dubious claim ever made in an election campaign was followed up and dealt with in the draconian manner suggested then there'd be no one left :-)
Media and political stunt and nothing more than that.
Things like this seem quite tame when compared to elections in earlier days In 1866 for example Sir Robert Jukes and Samuel Morgan standing for the two Nottingham seats hired a organisation called the Nottingham Lambs to assist their cause they did this by preventing the opposition candidate from speaking by burning doen the oppositions hustings, beating up their supporters and driving the candidates out of town.Jukes and Morgan won but because of the extreme violence the result was declared void.Much more interesting then a few boring debates.

... and the downside is...?
...and to think that equally gullible people will vote Labour without the coercion.
There is nothing new in religion influencing politics. In my birth constituency the MP, Margaret Bondfield, the first woman Labour cabinet member, was defeated in 1931 after she had supported contraception and the local Catholic church told the faithful that it would be a mortal sin to vote for her.
