They can't do without him because he turned the party into a "Personality Cult". They have been offered funding for their party office because of the size of their vote. Carswell is against it. I can't see him filling Farage's boots!

Does he have a point though ? I'm tempted to think, "That's politics. Self interest means one grabs chances when they come up with both hands, and goes for it". But the way the party is with certain members having to be pushed away or apologised for, it seems to me it has to have someone responsible in charge holding it together. After all its aim of leaving the EU is a just one not endorsed elsewhere. And it then inevitably becomes a "personality cult" out of necessity. When other charismatic reasonable folk are seen in leading positions by the public then it'll change.

In all parties there will be a difference of opinion on leadership. Farage's recinded resignation was bound to expose that.

I did not know that. So UKIP are due £650,000 from all of us taxpayers. Carswell is resisting taking it, but they would be foolish not to.

On the BBC News Channel they were saying that the version of events at the UKIP Executive meeting given by Farage differs the account of others. Farage had asked a UKIP MEP to sign a statement to the effect she would act as caretaker leader and keep the seat warm for him but she refused. Farage then put pressure on the Executive to back him.

UKIP is slowly but surely falling apart. How long will it be before Farage is found knocking on the back door of the Tory Party, begging to be let in again to play !

I heard Roger Knapman, Farage's predecessor on the radio earlier: he seems to be one of quite a few who feel that Farage should at least put himself up for re-election.
I suppose we shouldn't be surprised at this: Mr Farage's behaviour did seem bizarre and there are plainly a lot of people in the party who want to move on.
Isn't it odd btw how Douglas Carswell always seemed like a bit of a loony when he was in the Tory Party, but in the surroundings of UKIP he actually comes across as quite sensible :-)

To a lot of people UKIP means Nigel Farage, this guy Patrick O,Flynn should be very careful not to alienate the party from the very people who brought the popular party into being.
