This is a failure of the system, nothing to do with the ability of the NHS to retain staff or the nationality or race of the miscreant. It would be germane if the people who failed to to the checks were foreign nationals and they failed to do it because they were foreign nationals but I doubt that was the case.
so far as forged qualifications goes, then they should either be on the Uk registration system or, where its acceptable, on the registration system of their home country. I have no idea about police checks and their limitations. For the qualification check to fail then the person must have committed a very detailed identity theft which is possible but not as easy as stealing eg credit card details. As I said before though, its much less easy to check on someone's sanity as exemplified by this website lol.
Deskdiary...his qualifications weren't forged but he went on to kill hundreds of people, right under the nose of everybody associated with him.
Its not so different with this new chap.....he managed to do what he did underdetected for a considerable time. Its this issue that should be alarming the medical authorities, as well as the issue of checking quals.

I was being a bit mischievous, in that I knew Shipman was a proper Dr (completely nuts, granted, but that he was properly qualified), whereas this Filipino had forged documents.
The mischievousness was that these are two entirely different scenarios and therefore it was a pointless comparison.
Ultimately the end result was tragically the same, BUT, Shipman was qualified, the Filipino was not, so drawing the comparison was a waste of key strokes.

Retro...with respect, that is not the case with Shipman at all !
He was a psychopath and murdered perfectly innocent and well people.
I read the following book 2 years ago, and the evidence within it was chilling. He did what he did because he was allowed to do so. Lots of different people and organisations should share some of his guilt.

He killed at least 250 and there is strong evidence that he killed many, many more.
I can thoroughly recommend the above book. I gave my copy away to someone and they passed it on to somebody else ! I think its time I bought another copy, and at £2:89, its hardy expensive !

Yes they are
The GMC has an amazing raft of money making activities that foreign medical graduates have to jump thro.
European medical grads are let in free as it is agreed that if there were medical tests then the doctors in that country would combine to make everyone fail the entry exams - and that would mean more money for them
and yes after the Glasgow airport attack ( done by Maheed zonfire and so on ) the spokeslady for the GMC excitedly screamed they ( GMC) also had a anti-terrorist function - god help us all
and yes the GMC has an anti-mass-murderer function - and self conscioulsy says when asked how many doctors are mass murdering their patients says: truthfully we have no idea. They ( the GMC ) have this amazing paper exercise called money wasting "revalidation". One of its functions besides the anti terrorism and anti mass murder bit is to detect poor quality doctors. It doesnt do any of that but provides countless GMC apparatchiks with employment.
but dont worry folks it is all paid for by the doctors - say £400 a pop for 200 000 doctors is £40m a year innit ?
