Any Dressmakers/maths Geniuses Here Today?
24 Answers
Good afternoon lovely people. I have sent a note to the AbEd explaining my absence (new kneecap op, poorly husband, poorly youngest child etc etc) and I seem to have escaped without an after school detention. I hope you are all well and I have missed being on here.
Anyway, I need help with a calculation for some fabric. I want to make a bed cover which has to be 275 cm long and 225 cm wide. I am making it with a central seam.
The fabric I want to buy is 137 cm wide and has a repeat pattern every 32 cm
Taking into account the horizontal repeat, how much fabric will I need?
I am truly useless at working out this sort of thing.

I rang John Lewis in York and they worked it out for me. They only sell the fabric in whole metres so I will need 4 metres.
I am making it for a woman who must have more money than sense. The fabric costs £10 a metre and she then wants the bed cover edged with an expensive trim. Added on to this will be my labour costs.
This cover is to go on her bed so that her (rather large and very smelly) dog can lie on it without ruining her duver cover!
I think I will make some cushion covers with the excess fabric so that the mutt will be really comfy lol
