I will restate my view - I think the decision to take the child away from inadequate parents was the right one in this case.

You and I share one thing in common at least...we are both vociferous opponents of smoking. I would have thought that you would have been glad that this little lad has been taken to a place of safety ?

By coincidence I was in a house yesterday, which sounded very similar to this case, in regards to smoking at least. The place stunk of smoke and there was definitely a visible cloud to be seen. There was also a quite young baby there, about 6 months old, and the mother was actually holding it, at the same time as chain smoking. Luckily for me, I only had to spend 10 mins there, complete my business and I could leave. I felt sorry for the baby left behind though.

Another factor, which featured in the news very recently, is that addicted parents who smoke heavily will spend hugely disproportionate amounts of their money on tobacco, to the detriment of their children's diets. These do not seem to be rich parents, and cigarettes are extremely expensive, so the child was probably undernourished as well as having his lungs poisoned. He would almost certainly have suffered from bronchitis every winter as he grew up. Thank goodness he has been saved from the "care" of such feckless and selfish people.

My company does have a confidential telephone number that we can use, but I didn't in this case, as I come across so many heavy smokers in this socio-economic group. But I have used these number on two occasions over the last 6 years, when I have seen evidence of hard drug use.

If there had been drugs present yesterday, I would have phoned the number frst thing this morning without a doubt.

A deaf lone mother had both her tots removed by social services. She has since had 3 abortions I know of (possibly more to date) is now a drug addict and pimped by asian bus conductor.
