Fifa And Dodgy Deal With Irish Fa
Thierry Henry's imfamous handball goal that knocked Ireland out of qualufying for the World Cup, afterwards €5million was secretly given to the Irish FA. No ne knew about the the money, not the Irish players or Irish Government. The money was initially given as a loan for a new stadium. The stadium was never built, but the Irish FA kept the money as the loan was written off.

Part of his grumble was that the IFA members and their wives were staying in 5* hotels next to their venues while the players had to travel miles from inferior hotels. Some people accused him of being a prima donna but I thought he had a very good point. I mean, who the hell are all these apparatchiks anyway?
FAI please Svejk, not IFA. And no sarcastic comments about the Judaean People's Front and the People's Front of Judaea please :-)

Roll over a bit easy? Are you joking? There was a hell of a fuss.
Might as well re-post what I posted in the Sport section on this

I'm not sure who is more to blame here: FIFA or the FAI. What, seriously, were the chances of any sort of 'legal challenge' standing up in court?
The truth is the FAI made complete prunes of themselves over this admittedly horrendous refereeing error. And we had marches, petitions, God knows what.
Culminating the ultimate humiliation when they actually asked to be allowed into the draw for the finals as a 33rd entrant and were rightly laughed out of court publicly by Mr Blatter. One of those rare occasions when his Blatterness was actually on the side of common sense and we could all laugh with him
I'd love to know what happened to the money .
It seems as though the FAI only threatened FIFA with legal action AFTER Blatter laughed at them.
So Delaney told Blatter 'you laughed at us I'm going to sue you' and Blatter said 'have 3 million pounds to build a stadium instead and pay it back if you don't qualify for the next World Cup
Delaney said thanks - pocketed the cash. Next thing Rep of Ireland predictably don't qualify.
Blatter asks for the money back.
Delaney says 'but we're broke'
Blatter replies: fair enough keep it
Investigation time I think ...

I’m not a football fan, but my understanding is that if an official (referee) makes a serious error during a match, the loosing team cannot request the match be replayed, or that they are compensated for any subsequent financial loss.
There have been televised games where a goal was given, with the ball only hitting the side netting of the goal. A team cannot request that the match result is amended to that with the goal disallowed.
The exception to this appears to be subsequent player suspensions (where a player was incorrectly booked or sent off).
Given the amount of money at stake on the result of a match – if referee’s decisions could be questioned on appeal, with some compensation offered if successful – I would expect every Premiership match to have multiple appeals on offside/goal/penalty/foul decisions by the ref.
