Is It Fair For Schools To Organise Trips Abroad?

I would have thought this is an extreme example which is very unfair to those who are less well off. Is any school trip abroad whose cost may run into hundreds of pounds fair to those who cant afford to go? Why cant they visit places in the UK?

I can see both sides to this - yes life isn't fair .
I remember at school in PE , there was this boy who used to have the latest expensive trainers , while i had to make do with black pumps .

On the other hand to deliberately organise a trip at a costs which is prohibitive to other students does seem to be a bit unfair

And so starts a reality check for the kids that some people are able to do things because their parents work hard and save for their schooling.....and some parents don't. A reflection of real life. Not everyone is equal and lets stop kidding ourselves that they are. If you want something you save up for it. You don't expect it to be dropped into your lap.

It's no more unfair than not having parents who can take their kids to Barbados on a family holiday or splash out on Christmas gifts. I think it's a great opportunity for those who can afford it. Life can be unfair.
And £400 odd quid for a return flight to Barbados from Gatwick is like the proverbial rocking horse.

Yes but they fine the less well off parents who take their children out of school during term time, so that they can enjoy a visit abroad with their mum and dad.

Depends on the school and it loaction surely.

My youngest daughters skiing, Paris and everywhere else cost a ruddy fortune. But then I was probably one of the poorest parents in the school and when you added it on to the 12K plus a year fees the expensive hockey, gym kit and school uniform I suppose it was not so bad.

Just glad she finished up there 6 years ago !

Maybe the fare includes the freebie holiday for all the teachers that 'need' to go.

I don't think this is an appropriate to learn that "life isn't fair". All kids know that some friends go on foreign exotic holidays with their parents while others don't. There's no need for the school to accentuate this. They should organise cheaper trips.
I could afford for my son to go on a skiing trip, but he has much happier memories of Duke of Edinburgh award trips and an outing to Northern France and Belgium.
