How absolutely tragic - and not as one would first think some trophy aggressive breed but a small terrier. I can't imagine how they feel.

Sad tragic inattention. If you have a terrier you have to be on your toes all the time, I know, I have a jack Russell and I know he sees everything as a threat to be repelled. Cars, bikes, joggers, postmen, you name it. He also does seem to want to chase and attack small children, so I am constantly alert of the situation, he's just being a terrier but I'd hate to have him put down for attacking a child so I am always vigilant.

Its simple. You supervise dogs when they are near children and children when they are near dogs. If you can't be there to supervise, then you keep dogs and children apart. Poor baby. Poor dog. Stupid adults.

yes baby and dog dead because of stupid adults. The trouble is there is tendency for dog owners to think they know their dog, I have met dog owners who spout the usual cobblers "my dog is safe with children he's bee brought up with 6 kids yada yada.." .NO! you cannot make ay assumptions about any dog, ever.

I shudder when on FB you see cuddly pictures that people share of little babies/toddlers laying near or face onto dogs.

There's a hint on the news that mum was out at a do and came in at 4am to find injured baby and dad is being held on a child care issue.

Why are Police on patrol to reassure local residents? What happened is very sad but exclusive to the family only, nothing to do with the neighbours.

Presumably to reassure them that there is not an angry dangerous dog roaming the streets - I should imagine they have been stood down by now.
