Perhaps this is part of a 'cunning plan' to do just that. Or could be that these nurses will be above the cut-off or, as sqad and the HO spokesman said, fall into the reserved category. Rest assured, 30,000 nurses won't be packing their bags overnight.
Probably not. All groups seem to disperse responsibilities between different sub-groups, and create a situation where "the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing". Both departments are solving their own issues, achieving their own goals.
That said the problem is lack of local/national recruitment and relying on leeching of nursing talent from elsewhere in the world. Maybe parliament will need some kind of temporary postponement of "vital workers" until the situation has been repaired.

Oh I understand the incentive, but that merely helps the hospital budget, but looking at the bigger picture it causes more issues than it solves.
Unemployed of Welfare here. Lack of nursing staff from the other country.
Managing these things needs controllers at the top to see what is really the best strategy for the whole country (which probably means some political appointee unfortunately) whilst getting good advice from the medical profession and particularly the lower ranks who have to deal with the consequences as to what the problems are there.

The Royal College of Nursing seem to think that there will be a huge problem, if these valuable foreign nursing staff are deported. Where is the NHS going to get the replacements that will be needed in less that 2 years time ?
Sqad is right here....the NHS have been recruiting from abroad for years, because its cheaper than training our own people. My niece qualified as a Paediatric Nurse 3 years ago, and now works in a SCBU in South Wales. It must have cost a small fortune to train her.
So where is the money going to come from, to train 1000's more like her, when this Government is pledged to make £12bn in cuts ?

"Thousands of foreign nurses working in junior posts in the UK could be forced to return home under new immigration rules, union leaders have warned"
could and union leaders have warned..so no definitely will be or anything firm, just could from union leaders who would want members to strike at the drop of a hat given half a chance

Yes baz I did, but it didn't address the problems the RCN is talking about.
This has nothing to do with "ooman" rights and murdering criminals, and well you know it. But you are correct in assuming that this new law will have be repealed for nurses, as that is the only way out of the problem.
The NHS should be recruiting and training more people here in the UK. It will help to get more people off the dole and into work, although some of our unemployed that have no qualifications whatsoever may miss out, as the training for Nurses these days calls for a much higher education achievement than it did year ago.
So, we are between a rock and hard place here....we apparently have an urgent desire to send foreigner's home, but lack the wherewithal and money to train our own people ! What a shambles !
To answer Sandys point directly....no, Sandy, I don't think dave has thought this through, at all.

"Tories plan to kick 30,000 nurses out of Britain because they weren't born here"

This has nothing to do with "ooman" rights and murdering criminals, and well you know it.
it has when it comes to this country and its deplorable and lamentable record on deportation.
everybody seems to be getting their knickers in a twist over something that wont happen...we dont even get rid of illegals..obviously a slow news day
