1ossy...Of course you can't see how comments about Islam/Muslims quite fit in this thread so far, because they don't. The issue of Islam has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic of a woman being made a Bishop.

Its just the usual suspects that are trying to bring their Islamophobia into every post they can, especially when on my posts ! That why I ignore them...they have nothing to say of any worth or interest at all....they just moan, moan, moan !

Because I refuse to be racist and xenophobic about Muslims, these usual suspects try to turn every post to their own agenda of hate. As jno has said, they have managed to turn this into the usual Islamophobic diatribe...this time it took just 34 mins !

I think its about time the Editor started to do something about the Trollish Tendency on AB. It is now getting so bad, that it is getting in the way of a proper debate about pretty much any subject.

To deal with more important matter, my point in making the OP was to demonstrate that the Anglican Church is fast getting away from its misogynistic past, and not before time.

One of my closest friends was in the first intake of women Priests in the Church in Wales, but was eventually forced to retire early, due to opposition with her Diocese to women Priests. Rather ironically, all these years later, its the women who are keeping the Church going in Wales, as men are no longer joining in the numbers that they used to. My friend has come out of retirement, at least on a part-time basis, to assist local congregations, when their Vicars are sick or on holiday, as well as during Interregnums.

Women now comprise a sizable amount of Priest in Wales and we have come a long way since 1997, when they first appeared. In a previous job, a few years ago, I came into contact with most Parishes and Priests in three Diocese in South Wales, and I met many women Clergy, and it was obvious that most of them had to work harder than the men, and go that extra mile, in order to prove to some men, at least, that they were more than capable of doing the job expected of them.

I hope we see more women Bishops in the future.

I'm very happy to have a lady vicar (she happens to be very good) and don't have any problem with either the incipient lady bishop or with the male curate!

I read mikey's OP as perfectly genuine - I, too, am glad that the Anglican Church is moving forwards (I was raised Methodist/Anglican so have a choice).

At the moment I am wondering if we (the singing group we have helped to establish) dare to sing 'The Vicar of Dibley' theme in our slot in the service! Don't see why not, will broach it!
