I can't make head nor tail of it. All that seems to have happenned is that they have not paid the installment and have promised to do so if the ECB weigh in with more dosh. Sounds like lend me score and I'll give you the tenner I owe you! When is the ECB and EU at large going to stop playing games with these charletans?

As imp do said before, if they let the Greeks get away with it then it sends a very negative message to all other EU countries.
No new deal has been done as far as I can see
If anyone is playing games it's the Greek government
As you probably know, there is a further 7billion euro to be paid to the Greeks provided they clear the debt they've just defaulted on.
But apparently the Greeks are themselves owed several billion euro from some bonds or something that i don't really understand - and at one point there was talk of a 'debt exchange' At which point my feeble non financial brain turned to jelly :-)
Keep telling you. The EU will do anything to stop the €uro from unravelling.

They are frightened of one goes, they all go. So the €uro is just not allowed to fail. If the cost is keeping Greece's head above water, then so be it.
I disagree. They are plainly fed up with Greece.
Greece leaving the euro would not lead to the euro zone unravelling
It might well lead to Greece unravelling
Even Syriza has staked its reputation on staying in the euro tho how much longer their credibility can be maintained remains to be seen
Probably until the referendum result is counted ...
the Greeks aren't just pocketing the money as the OP kind of suggests. It's going to their creditors.
The EU should send in the Hailfire Droids from the Collections and Security Division :-)

Greece has told lies to get hold of a credit card, maxed it out, and would now like the credit limit raised rather than having to pay anything back, blaming everything on the creditors for being stupid enough to lend them money in the first place.

We've all done it. I know I have.
.

Merkel has apparently said - of tsipras - get this clown out of the room !
and that should give you an insight as to why you cant get a handle on the situation

Gromit is right - Tsipras is relying on - one down - all down with respect to the Euro to get the Germans to pay his pensions in perpetuity
and the Germans presumably think that the deal is not worth it

Tsipras thinks he can default and stay in the Euro and the other 18 think he cant. The GREEKS want to stay in the Euro as a return to the Drachma is a return to a soft currency and prices will immediately double
Ludwig - not a bad analogy - well done ( no not getting into debt - but having an insight )
// the Greeks aren't just pocketing the money as the OP kinda suggests. It's going to their creditors.//

o god raising a loan to service a debt ... bankruptcy awaits
