He also paid the full amount back before the case went to court. He was fined a couple of hundred pounds and was given community service. But he's just an ordinary Joe, not a faded pop star from a famous family:-(
I don't think it is different to the huge majority of cases that are not made public. She had mental problems, pleaded guilty by accepting a caution and is repaying it.The amount was relatively low at £6000, that was never going to be more than a caution or conditional discharge. You can't have different rules for well known people. In fact most cases for that sort of amount and situation are even prosecuted, so in that way she has been more severely treated than an unknown person, she now has a criminal record that most people in a similar situation would not have.
EDDIE51; The original sum was £12,000 (there were a couple of charges) and the DWP dropped the case for £8,000 of that in May. Blackpool council were going to go ahead with the case for £4,000 - which she is already paying off - but changed their minds at the eleventh hour.
My friend owed much less than that amount but, besides not being famous, he also forgot to pretend he had contemplated suicide over it. Cynical? You bet i am.

Type Your Answer Here...This has nothing to do with the courts.
The decision to issue a caution is taken by the police in conjunction with the CPS. The idea of cautions was to give first time offenders committing trivial offences the chance to avoid a conviction by accepting their guilt. It is a grossly abused facility and now multiple offenders committing serious offences are afforded the privilege. Defrauding the taxpayer of £6k does not fall into the “trivial” category in my book.
