Why not? It's Max Clifford - kick him all you like Mikey
1981? I don't know what point there is to this; he's been tried and punished and publicly humiliated for past misdeeds (and I have no quarrel with this whatsoever); but I'm not sure he's worth any more of the justice system's time. Is there any realistic prospect of him being given another sentence on top of those he's serving already?
Well, did it not happen to Stuart Hall?

////Far be it for me to kick a man when he is down ..........////

Allow me...

" Far be it for me to kick a man when he is down ..........", surely that's the best time.
dont forget like all the others involved these few cases theyve been convicted of are just the tip of the iceberg....
he will have been involved in an untold number of other instances, but it will be virtually impossible to get him on them, so instances like this new one are for those as well...

If he hadnt been caught, he probably would be todays offender and re-offending !
What about the victims, Methyl?
Great to get the ones after all this time but what about the ones who have got away with it and still living
-- answer removed --
What about them, Jenny? They got away with it. Simple as that. There must hundreds of them.

Why the change. You have always demanded your pound of flesh and were always wanting heads to roll as far as future employment tenure so don't get wobbly now (or words to the effect that the Great Lady was quoted to have said.) You are getting your wish.Rejoice.
jno - //Is there any realistic prospect of him being given another sentence on top of those he's serving already?//

There must be - that's the only circumstance under which the CPS will proceed - they are not in the business of wasting public money so they only pursue cases they believe they can win.

In my view, all cases are equally important - you cannot say to the victim in this alleged assault that, because he is already in prison, they are going to let this assault slide - how does that make the victim feel? Less valued than those whose cases Clifford is in prison for, which is morally wrong.
methyl - //ill these antique witch hunts never stop? Surely the Police can concentrate on current cases rather than 30-year-old dead cases.

My fundamental point is that today's sex offender is dangerous and liable to re-offend imminently.//

One would hope that both sets of cases are pursued with equal vigour, the new and the historic.

You cannot believe that a case ceases to deserve prosecution simply because time has passed?

Who measures that time?

At what point is an assault deemed less serious because it was a year ago / ten years ago / twenty years ago ....

The law does not cease to operate on a sliding time scale - and if you were a victim, you would be very grateful that it didn't.

Justice is still justice - it's like honey - it doesn't go off.
andy, they pursue cases with a prospect of conviction - but sentence?

I can't speak for the victim, of course, but if I thought my assailant had already been put away for assaults on others, I *might* just be happy with that rather than wanting to go through a trial of my own. Fortunately I haven't been in this positiion.
jno - if they tack another ten years on, then justice will have been done, and been seen to be done - and you can't beat that!
If we can go back and judge past events in the light of our modern codes,

How about Moses - child abuse - bondage and attempted murder? islamic leaders taking 12 year old brides?

St James bible " thou shalt not suffer a witch to live"

that's what I was wondering about, though, andy - would they tack it on? Or just order it be served concurrently?

He got eight years for eight assaults. That implies he might get only another year for a ninth one (and be out in half that). With respect to his victims, I don't know if this is all worth it.
jno - //With respect to his victims, I don't know if this is all worth it.//

I understand your point jno - I guess they will have to decide if they wish to take part in the next phase, if it goes forward.
