91 year old confesses to the murder of Soho sex worker in 1946 ( don't think they were known as sex workers back in 1946 though ! ).

No, they were called common prostitutes Tony ! Well, if he confessed, then he should be tried as normal. If convicted he will find plenty of old men his age in the Nick....he might have seen some of them on the Telly !

Back in 1946 I think they would have hanged him, mikey.
He said he wanted to admit his crime to clear his conscience after being diagnosed with cancer

I had no idea it was that easy to clear your conscience!

You do like Name-calling don't you Mikey, how about being charitable and saying 'Lady of the Night'?
Tony...yes I expect they would....lucky for him he waited so long before confessing !
Question Author
Do you not think that he has confessed because he is probably dieing anyway, mikey.
Why describe the victim as Ms Cook? In 1946 she was either a Miss or a Mrs. That term didn't exist and is incorrect. She may have been a Madam though in relation to her job description. :-)
From your link, it sounds as if that is the case Tony. I suppose there is some closure now for the prostitutes family that are still left alive. But I would doubt that the Canadians will allow him to be extradited.

Neither do I, mikey.
Is this another private conversation?
Retro....I have never been entirely sure about the term "Ms" I interview lots of ladies, of all ages, every week and I can count on the fingers of one hand the ones that have preferred to be known as Ms.

Indeed, even amongst the Mems, there is widespread confusion about the title.

// No, they were called common prostitutes Tony ! Well, if he confessed, then he should be tried as normal.//

no mikey - hard man and hanging judge that you are !
he shouldnt be tried - unless there is corroborating evidence

we learnt this the hard way from all the terrorist trials in the seventies where some Oirish confessed ( after being beaten up ) to things it could be shown they hadnt done

add to this the depressed and demented confess to crimes the specifically had not done and couldnt have done because they are ill and not criminal

and you have a good recipe for a miscarriage of justice
PP...fair point ! I would be surprised if any other evidence, other than confessional is now available.

Sorry pp, should have added if found guilty.
Maybe he should become Muslim and go in quest for the vestal virgins upstairs?
and the most famous example of someone confessing to crimes because he was depressed was Viscount Castlereagh, 1822 who confessed to the Prince Regent that he had been guilty of the crimes of Revd Clodagh - that would be boggery by the way - The Bishop of Clodagh had been caught in a compromising position with a guardsman I think. No photos of course but there were contemporary cartoons ....

and altho he was watched - he cut his own throat !
last words -" it is done ! "

Oh he was prime minister at the time - but I dont think that matters does it ?
O bogger the Prince Regent was then King in 1822 - oops
or there goes a modern Prime Minister....much as many would wish.
He should have hung 70 years ago.

Maybe they should just withhold his cancer treatment and save the money of his trial.?
