A new policy on dress code standards issued by Gloucestershire Police advises officers to be clean shaven, or wear a beard net.

How do you feel about this?

I understand the need for beard nets in food preparation, but the police?

Also, the guidelines suggest that tattoos should be covered and that female officers should wear 'minimal make-up'.

I presume that as only females will be instructed to use minimal make up males can wear full slap....is this so they can cover up their tattoos? how daft....

Some of em should not even be allowed to wear the uniform davemano
it makes you wonder what clown is getting paid to sit around thinking all these lame ideas up.
You mean that police officers actually exist?
Not seen one for years.
What do they actually do?
I know that part of mu Council Tax is paying them.

My (lovely) next-door-neighbour is a policeman. He says there are rules on hair length, so I suppose there is no reason for beards not having rules as well. Agree about tattoos and make-up. I have also seen Sikhs wearing 'beard nets' voluntarily. I suppose a long, grabbable beard could be a weakness in a scuffle.
And a long grabable beard net isn't ?
It's clearly a deliberate attempt to make the copper a laughing stock and lose him all respect.
Oh, how ridiculous about the beard net. Minimal makeup for women, yes, that's just common sense and more professional looking. Of course tattoos should be covered up, because tattoos are a very personal expression, and obviously that is not the image the police want to portray.
I don't know about a beard net, whoever thought this one up is a martinet....
OG, the beard net holds the beard tucked away, its not long and grabbable.

Only the female ones.
I think they should. As long as said beard net is made of Kevlar! Then I would wear one even if I didn't have a beard!
A rule thought up by a Crank that must have been Pizzzzzzzzzzed. It can onle be thought about in the Political stupid UK by an overpaid crank.
Beaded policemen, Turban wearing policemen, all in the name of appeasement.

Where will it all end? Hijab wearing police women, Niqab, wearing police women or even full blown Burqa wearing police woman?

Niqab, wearing police women or even full blown Burqa wearing police woman?

I wouldn't rule that out, aog. How about a Burqa wearing lollipop lady.

Blimey I would have taken that as a traffic bollard.
I bet she gets plenty of stick!

The children probably stop in shock!
should police officers be forced to wear viddie-cams ?

answer yes - but OMG that wasnt the question !
something much more important was ...
// Where will it all end?// AOG asks so percipiently

well I would mind them going around in speedos
The Gurlz that is ! and then we could really see their tattoos

sorry I am taking this less seriously than I should
I don't see any difference in police women having long hair and the men having long beards, in both cases the hair can be grabbed, a net is no deterrent.
For AOG
