Hypognosis,
// If the "Asian man" is a complete fabrication, then there is no-one in a *direct* position to accuse her of race-hate speech. //

And no one is. She has not been charged with a race hate offence. She has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Does the law *literally* allow others to take offence on the behalf of all Asians, having been impugned in this manner?
“Does the law *literally* allow others to take offence on the behalf of all Asians, having been impugned in this manner?”

Well, not quite “take offence”, Hypo. But consider this:

"A racist incident is any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person."

“That the term "racist incident" must be understood to include crimes and non-crimes in policing terms. Both must be reported, recorded and investigated with equal commitment.”

These are recommendations 12 and 13 of the Macpherson report into the police handling of the death of Stephen Lawrence. So the answer to your question is probably “yes”. But as Gromit points out, this is to do with attempting to pervert the course of justice, not racially insulting behaviour.
Gromit // I reckon Primark will be more concerned with loss of revenue than reputation which can be repaired. People will have not shopped there either because they have babies, or showing solidarity with breast feeding mothers.//

Sales figures will be interesting but I don't think there will be too much damage. Primark is a popular retailer which represents decent value for money to a lot of people.

If Primark were on trial and lost then it would be a different situation. I would say that mothers with babies would not stay away at worrying levels and as more facts emerge I can't imagine a huge wave of support from breast feeding mothers either despite the FB acknowledgements.
// What's wrong with the names Paige and Freya //

There's nothing wrong with "Freya"

In Wagner's Ring, Wotan (or was it Loge?) promised Freya, the goddess associated with, essentially, sexuality, to the giants Fasolt and Fafner, for building Valhalla.

When they returned her, they demanded as much gold as would completely cover her. When she was covered in gold, the ends of her hair were still showing.

One presumes that "get yer tits out and rip off Primark" mum named her child Freya because she had beautiful hair, which would show from under a heap of gold.

Although it doesn't look like she's getting much gold from Primark.
......I mean Primark!!
Nice bit of standard raising, jj. ;)
// Although it doesn't look like she's getting much gold from Primark.//

Just plenty of coppers
it looks as though Primark may well come out with its reputation unstained. But it may have lost business temporarily since these allegations were first publicised, and they would have no means of getting it compensated for; I imagine this woman doesn't have enough resources to make it worth suing her (that's assuming her story to be untrue, which hasn't been proved yet). Hence my sympathy for the shop.
They'll be ok, certainly in no danger of going bust :)
The headline says "Perverting the course of justice" (very serious) and the copy says "Intent to pervert the course of public justice" what is that and which is it?
people are typically charged with committing actions with the intent to pervert the course of public justice, as far as I know. So they're probably synonymous. But someone more knowledgeable may give you a better answer.

/// Kylie is a fantastic name is belongs to one of the greatest human beings who ever lived. ///

And who can that be? I had a trawl through my history book of greatest human beings and couldn't come up with a person who's first name was Kylie.

Why are you assuming that all Asians are Muslims?

Maybe sp will return to clarify...

Hypo,

Good links there.

I'm still not convinced though regarding damaged reputation. Granted, Primark paid a massive amount in compensation but that was a few years ago and I don't sense a reduction in footfall or lengthy decline in sales figures.

Second link very thought provoking but despite attempts to prick the consumer's conscience, it is but a pipedream...
