Why is it strange?
Under our legal system, everyone is entitled to a fair trial and competent legal representation - and that is what has happened here.
The law does not say Hamza and Hindley are repugnant human beings, therefore we can just rubber-stamp their convictions because of what they have done, or their off-putting public appearances.
So someone has to represent them and provide proper defence, in order for due legal process to be exercised - and that is absolutely how it should be.
