/// Hopkins' piece was reported to police by Peter Herbert, the Chair Society of Black Lawyers. He earlier claimed it included “some of the most offensive, xenophobic and racist comments I have read in a British newspaper for some years”. ///
Now we all know that very title isn't in the least a teeny bit racist, don't we?

She never said or implied that and that goes for most of those who have been accused of this over used word in the past. She might have been offensive to some but that is all and that is not a crime. Well it wasn't but it may well be in the not too distant future by the way things are going.

/// She has parlayed being provocative into a highly paid career - getting upset over her views only encourages her. ///
Oh so we shouldn't get upset then because someone gets arrested on such a trivial accusation, by a group who have their own axe to grind. //
I think the debate about the seriousness of the accusation is a side issue, but as far as Ms. Hopkins being arrested for her ludicrous posturing - I imagine she will see it as a badge of honour!
Were she someone who has been wrongly accused of making racial inferences (and as I said, that is a separate issue), then I would be the first to leap to her defence.
However, if you make our highly paid living out of making scattergun contentious observations in national newspapers, then you must accept approbation, ridicule, and where applicable, arrest, as occupational hazards of your chosen career path.
