To be fair, I only fed the things at the same time when I was home - Christ, someone might have had a heart attack if I'd fed that at the same time in public.

Im not offended by it at all.... And im not a mother, but personally id go somewhere private.

I wont breastfeed though i really just cant! Its so natural though its a beautiful thing (i trained with midwives a few days ages ago and went to ladies houses to show them what to do & support) xx

But, tinkerbell, there is nowhere to do it privately while out. Unless in a loo, (which I mentioned I did) but that's not ideal.

I think most of us would rather do it in private given a choice. I would rather do it in public than let my baby get distressed though.

I'm not a whip 'um out and feed where and when. If I was in town Mothercare has a baby feeding room but I'd refuse to sit in a public toilet so I don't offend people that can't bare the smallest bit of breast being exposed. Especially when those offended don't get very offended by page 3.

He may be out of touch but i don't think he shousld have been suspended. Organisations such as radio stations seem to be influenced too much by petitions- it's not hard these days with facebook, twitter and emails etc for pressure groups/ to arrange for a few thousand compalints to be submitted. A facebook campaign doesn't meen everyone finds the comments offensive, Those that aren't offended tend not to bother tweeting/facebooking their thoughts on matters

I think this man either unable to gauge what is suitable satire, and how to deliver it so it is clearly understood, or he is a Neanderthal, but either way, he should have adjusted his approach.

As far as breastfeeding in public goes, I don't believe that many women make a big show out of it - why would they - so the notion that women are getting themselves out with a big fanfare is probably wide of the mark.

I do remember being at a festival, and getting into conversation with a lady who was nursing a baby, and it was only after about five minutes that I realised she was actually feeding, a measure of how discreet most feeding mums are I am sure.

It's like most aspects of society - some people choose to make a great big deal out of what they do, others simply get on with it and don't make a fuss.

Well, we disagree again. There has developed over the years a certain hardening of attitude, a certain bravado, a sort of "I'm a woman, I am pregnant, look, I have got a baby and i am breast feeding and what are you going to do about it......"go women go!
I am not saying that it is right or wrong, just a challenge to the "old ideas"....the wrinklies, the oldies........

In the last generation and previous ones, a baby was never seen being fed in public and it does make you wonder how these parents coped and the deleterious affect it had on the baby. One would fit the baby around your life, but now it seems that one fits one's life around the baby. I am not saying which is the more desirable, for baby or parents.

When in public it would seem that a screaming baby needs feeding....does it......aren't there other reasons....colic? boredom? nappy full of ***.......etc.

Feeding on demand?..........never did it with "my lot".........very few did. But as you have often said......" we must move forward from those dark ages.

I am quite sure that there are a number of attention-seeking feeding mothers who insist on making a big deal out of feeding in public - but I confess I have never ever seen one.

And I am sure you will agree, that they are outnumbered considerable by their more discreet sisters.

Breast feeding is the most natural thing in the world, some people are just stuck in the dark ages, it is them that have the problem, they really need to grow up and wise up. Since when has a human breast been offensive? It certainly has never bothered me, if I see someone breast feeding, I would give a second glance.

Why? If that really is his opinion (and I suspect he was deliberately controversial here) under pressure he's been obliged to apologise - but it's still his opinion so the apology is simply making the 'right' noises in order to placate the humourless complainers - which makes the whole thing even more farcical. I get fed up with people demanding others adjust their approach just to suit anyone who doesn't approve of it.
