Thailand is a beautiful country, I've been three times and never felt anything but safe.

Rocky...I am glad you weren't in Bangkok this morning !
I have been to Bali and felt very very safe there until I heard that a bomb had gone off a yr or two later, so I I wouldn't really trust anywhere as being safe.
I did say that I felt safe here in England, but have since changed my mind on that one.
Gosh, the times I've walked past there.. I reckon it's something to do with their internal troubles. The shoppong centre there was set alight a few years ago.
isn't the shrine outside a hotel? It could well have been aimed at tourists.
Mikey, bearing in mind the number of places that have been targeted, if we all thought like you none of us would ever go anywhere – and many of us would still be potentially at risk.
Mikey, there where probably tourists in London during the 7/7 bombings, yet still more come.
Just spoke to my son, who teaches English in Bangkok. He's fine and was no where near the Erawan Shrine.

He's been there for about 14yrs and we have visited about 5 times. Normally despite all the political unrest at times in Bangkok and the very southern areas its very friendly to tourists. Tourism is a major part of their GDP
Rocky...horrible that the 7/7 bombings were, they are hardly an everyday occurrence in London, or Stratford-on-Avon, or Stonehenge, or Bath, or Edinburg, etc, etc. Thailand has been in political unrest for years, and what happened today has happened before.

Thank god my caravan is in Cornwall !
SlackAlice. I've never traveled that part of the world but that is good news that your son wasn't near at the time.
Another Bomb more Deaths / Injuries beyond belief, I's about time every country in the world got together to totally wipe out these evil pigs, or I am I wrong calling Pigs evil, theses murderous Evil scum needs to be taken out weather they are Men / Women, they are effecting people's life's no end, apart from the Severe loss of life, families loosing loved ones, are the world Powers doing enough?
Has anyone claimed responsibility?

My aunt and uncle have a house in Thailand and they're heading there next week.

Mikey...it's a lovely country. A bomb going off in Bangkok wouldn't stop me from going.
TWR, no one has claimed responsibility yet. The authorities seem to suspect it was politically motivated.

My money goes in the direct IS Naomi, Tunisia! It see's the only way these evil scum can reach their goal is to go for the Tourist spots.
Unlikely, TWR.
Best to check out the form before placing your bet, TWR.
TWR, The Islamic insurgents in Thailand do have connections with IS and other groups, but there is also much internal political dissent to consider, and at this time the authorities seem to think the clues lead in that direction. I think we have to wait before laying blame in any particular area.
