All sounds a bit suspicious to me. How can they possibly know in the vast majority of cases who is "invalid"? I predict that after this process they'll reform the election process again following this omnishambles. ....and yes, I'm still in!

Doing so is a literary device to indicate that you are deliberately not using the word in its actual sense; you, however, ARE using the word in its actual sense!
If a Tory or supporter of any other non-Labour party signs up and pays £3.00 to vote in this leadership election, claiming that he "supports the values of the Labour party", then he clearly IS a cheat!
Having said that, I do agree that the set-up is an omnishambles, rather like that early Osborne budget. I'm sure they WILL reform the process.

That said, there is a thread here http:// www.the answerb ank.co. uk/News /Questi on14408 35.html Showing how the Tories are encouraging people to show the good old British 'stiff upper lip'...What!
QM, I was quoting the story but it is valid that "cheat" is in quotes because those being weeded out by Labour cannot possibly be reliably identified thus. If they make all the declarations and are in the electoral reg then I cannot see how they can be identified. Though it is arguable that many genuine Labour supporters my not be on the electoral register so even that is iffy, hence "cheat".

Sometimes it's pretty obvious (even the cat got found out eventually)
And there was a Tory peer who registered(!), Maybe the inbreeding there ...
I doubt actually if the Tory "infiltrators" are making much of a difference.
But the party has to be seen to be making an effort to weed out the cheats no matter who they support
As I said before it is a dumb system.
