The French show a distinctive lack of enthusiasm to sort out public disorder. Time and again mob rule prevents people going about their business. This is particularly so in the Channel ports and Calais seems to have descended into anarchy.

I cannot imagine such a situation prevailing in the UK and cannot imagine a judge being coerced into releasing a prisoner under threats from the mob. It really is about time the French grew up and began to run their country a little more responsibly.
