...to develop their grassroots football.

I am a supporter of foreign aid, but surely this is unjustifiable

It seems odd but Osborne and others do seem to be trying everything to woo Chinese investorswho are looking to invest here- eg HS2 I think I heard today and certainly some power stations.
Fair play, we get a high speed train and nuclear power station out of it. :-)

We have the skills and the know how (allegedly) and they have all the money
So why are we we not selling instead of buying?
On the face of its a frikkin joke...but Im guessing the payback is business contracts of all sorts for the UK that probably run into £billions

So it's a bribe using public money in effect
It's plain wong. What does it take to make people on here/ in the UK angry?
All part of a buttering up plan.

Then again, there may be a little more to it.

/// Campaigners have urged him to raise concerns about the treatment of the province's Muslim Uighur minority. ///
Different cultures have different ways of doing business.

In some countries a 'bribe' is customary.

It's no use hiding under the bed and knocking the Chinese, we need to get to partner them. It will also help when we leave the EU to have outside trading partners lined up.
Forgive me if I have the wrong impression, but I thought China was one of the richest countries in the world. Perhaps they should be giving us some foreign aid not the other way around.

The foreign aid budget I would imagine Bouncer.

BTW, do you approve of giving free school dinners to kids from rich parents then?

George Osborne as Mr Woo ...
Haven't we got enough problems?
AOG has it right here...it is a giant buttering up plan. I'm not happy with it but if it ends up with Britain gaining lots of new contracts and investments, then perhaps we should bite the bullet and carry on...such is life !

The point, surely, is that we should not be giving money to the Chinese, however else we may be touching them up.
Identify a way we can help them : and either give it to them at minimal expense or charge them for it.
But actually pay them to help China beat England at a future World Cup? I'll laugh even louder than I normally do :-)
