/// The commitment to record anti-Muslim offences as a separate category of hate crime was first made in the Conservative party manifesto and is designed to reassure Muslim communities that the government’s strategy will be balanced. ///
How can this possibly be balanced when it is only two religions who get the privilege of being placed in a separate category of hate crime?

As far as I can make out, the focus is on actual instances of physical assault and, probably, property damage, such as the kind depicted.
Hopefully it will still be safe to just say things, like the grand plan, in their book, is to take over the world, whether by voluntary conversion, forced conversion or death. Other, back-peddaling texts, claiming that this was all wrong, or needs to have its historical context taken into account, may exist. But, basically, average British folk aren't allowed to express an opinion because we haven't read the book or, if we have, the translation is unreliable, not approved of by senior imams or a raft of other apologia. We should be training people to read Arabic and scrutinise the whole thing, to get at the truth.

Dear oh dear oh dear. Hate crime is up and who would of thought it?
Any one,I wonder, who still dismiss Enoch Powell MP as a crackpot bigot with his rivers of blood speech. Shame our current batch of chinless wonders and political misfits didn't learn the lessons from their predecessors. Even Sir Winston Churchill could see where Islam was leading in the book he wrote in the 1890s The River Wars.

It has nothing to do with the law and the law not being equal.
It is about the recording of the crimes. And we want to be able to quickly pull out some data, so we record that data at collection.
In this instance, Jewish communities may ask for more police resources to be deployed to their areas because they think they are under greater threat of attack. By looking at the actual statics for that area and surrounding areas, the police can see if indeed there is indeed more attacks, and if they are at such a level to justice more police in those areas.
Without recording these crimes, the job of policing and protecting communities would be much harder.
If hate crimes against any other religious groups, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists etc become a problem, then presumably more attention will be deployed in recording those crimes. At the moment religious hate crime appears to affect mainly Jews and Muslims, so that is were the attention of collecting the data is focussed.

SP. //This has nothing to do with the law.//
I beg to differ, As far as I am aware The Equality Act is part of the law – and the police are the guardians of the law. Therefore if they are required to register the number of offences against one religious group, a similar requirement should be in place for the rest. How else are we to determine whether Jews, Muslims, Christians, or any other group is suffering significantly more than any other other?

We have no shortage of computing power, these days. Why not have one column each for the victim's ethnicity and faith and another column for the perpetrator's ethnicity, bung it all into the mainframe and we can build up a complete "who hates who"* map of the UK. You can extract all the trends you want.
* hoping grammar buffs can polish that up for me.
A column for the perpetrator's faith would only contain supposition, until a suspect is tracked down. I reckon much of what goes into these statistics ends up on the unsolved lists.

I'm fairly certain that the moment that Christian graves are desecrated in the same way that Jewish graves are, then the police will start recording these crimes separately.
If there are 473 antisemetic crimes in the first half of this year but virtually none (well, at least I couldn't find any by searching online) - should the police be spending resources to record it?
Like I said earlier, I'm surprised there isn't a greater degree of granularity already built into the data warehouse used by the police. It seems like a simple fix to me.
But right now, I think our concern should be with those who are actually the victims of these crimes, rather than using this story as yet another reason to saddle up our collective high horses for a quick canter around the Outrage Paddock of Life.

This is a no win situation for the police. I know I have posted this before.
Years ago when Sir Paul Condon was the Met Commissioner he was asked by the, then, Labour government to state the ethnicity of the perpetrators and victims of crime in his annual commissioners report. This had never been requested before but he complied. When it transpired that street crimes( muggings), according to the crime reports were committed predominately by Black Caribbean males the wheels came off and Labour realised they had made a big mistake but made Sir Paul their scapegoat by doing as they requested!!
Now the shoe is on the other foot and they want to be listed seperately.
Funny how the police are damned if they do or dont.

Gromit, The Churchill War Cabinet authorised allocation of £100,000 for acquisition of a mosque site in London. The intent was to enable Muslims in Britain to build a mosque and an Islamic Cultural Centre, so they could conduct affairs pertaining to their faith. The gift was also intended as a tribute to the thousands of Indian Muslim soldiers who died defending the British Empire.

That doesn’t mean that Churchill considered converting to Islam. Although he did say //Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die;//, he also said:
//How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.
A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome. //
Pretty prophetic some might say.

I don’t think a few extra tick boxes as Hypognosis has suggested would break the bank. To avoid provoking feelings of resentment from any quarter the rules need to be seen to be fair. I don’t think a few extra tick boxes as Hypognosis has suggested would break the bank.
