Being given PREFERENCE is not the point, why are they being given social housing AT ALL !!!!!

If you choose to come from Poland or other EU country that is your choice. You get a job, you rent somewhere to live, you pay your way.

If you cant get a job or a house then GO BACK TO POLAND.

Nobody asked you to come here, so don't expect handouts.

Disgraceful.

I don't think social housing is free
//I don't think social housing is free//

Quite correct but there is a ruddy long list of young indigenous couples who were in the queue before they got bulldozed out the way.My two sons and their families are an example.
The article does not say they are given preference. Presumably you mean over indigenous British people. They let 116,000 properties, and less than ten thousand went to people from EU countries. That means over 90% went to British people - were is the preferential treatment?

And the headline is totally misleading...
// top nations living on UK handouts REVEALED //
Being an Housing Association (or Council) Tenant does not mean they are living on handouts.

Usual misleading right wing junk journalism.
Welcome back Retrocop :-)
We had a Polish couple lined up to rent one of our houses then they pulled out as they got a housing association house - incredible -the guy had only been in the country 6 months and his 'wife' was still in Poland. Social Housing should be available exclusively for people who have been born in the UK.
Thank you Gromit.
According to that link the number of British tenants in social housing has fallen from 94% to 91% over 8 years.

With a majority like that I don't see preference.
Tony

The Press Association do not mention living on UK handouts or preferential treatment, because the data they present does not support that.

The Daily Express have put a spin on it designed to pander to their readers' xenophobia. The number of lets to EU residents has gone up in the Social Housing sector, but British resident lets are still over 90%. It probably just means there are more eastern Europeans, so there are more meeting the criteria for a social Housing property, such as having young children.
Ah I see Gromit, different paper (report) = different slant.

Logical fallacy in your question:

Why Are Eastern Europeans In England Given Preference To Social Housing?

That's not what the story is saying.

Social housing for those from Eastern Europe has trebled, in eight years, whilst the amount let to UK nationals has fallen in the same period by 3%.

Now - is there anywhere in the report that details what that 3% means in hard numbers?

From what I can make out (looking at stats from the ONS, it looks like there are about 2million people in social housing. Using that as a starting point, it would suggest that 60,000 have left social housing, but that doesn't correspond with the numbers of Eastern Europeans who are now tenants.

And how do we know what numbers of people who were formerly council tenants have now bought their own homes!!!

This is all very messy. I don't think you should read too much into it...at least not without some more analysis.
Actually, Gromit, The figures are even more skewed in the article than would appear at first sight.
Council letting were 116,000. It doesn't say what HA lettings were (except that they are a larger proportion.
The figure of 9,128 is taken from the total of Council and HA lettings (which we only know is greater than 232,000).

More important to me anyway is that 8,000 people from Uk are living on benefits in Germany - now this I would like to know more about - I could go on a grand tour around Europe as a claimant
However the figures are massaged, they're getting preferential treatment over people who are still on the waiting list.

Can you prove that? Or are you just supposing
'In June, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed two “open carry” gun bills'

A depresssing example of why the gun laws in the US will never be repealed.
apologies wrong thread. dodgy internet connection.
I'm presuming that since there's a shortage of housing there are people on waiting lists.
^That was to Ric.ror.
