Drastic but R4 was saying the Chinese spare capacity at the moment is larger than the total European production capability, that serious the overhang....how many of our furnaces and mills can adapt quickly to making niche alloys to find the value added needed for sustainiability - not that many, my bet.

Where are Tata going to buy their alloys for their Jaguars, Range Rovers and Astons from.......?

I heard Sajid Javid make that comment, too, Bouncer, in fact I mentioned it on an earlier thread - where I had an impassioned few sentences on the subject of making a whole area destitute.

There is to be a meeting in Rotherham very soon by steelworkers to discuss the future (or lack of it) of their industry.

Either way, a lot of steel making jobs will go, but those can be replaced by a few Lidl's, Aldi's and Morrison's jobs paying minimum wage for 18 hours a week contracts, the Government topping up poverty wages out of taxpayers money, in benefits, and some Conservative donating builder putting up £300,000 houses that no one locally can afford, on the former site.

Were I work we have our steel rod coils ( about three lorry loads a day ) from Tata Scunthorpe, I hope we don't have to start buying from abroad.

^^^ By the way. Reference earlier posts.. I live in an area identified for fracking. I hope and trust that the technology has matured enough to be harmless. In the interests of the whole country, I still think that fracking should begin a.s.a.p..
