Surely pedantry is part of the Speaker's job-description. He/she, virtually alone, is supposed to be the one who is expected to know Erskine May like the back of their hand…in other words, the ‘rules’ on just how the Commons ought to work.
Bercow does that very well generally and the fact that he’s often a thorn in Tory sides is just an added recommendation!
