It's not some kind of mistake driving the EU to destroy individual nations in Europe. It's all part of the masterplan embarked on many years ago.
Europe's external borders are already closed.

"Europe's external borders are already closed. " - really? have you noticed Calais gromit? If the borders are closed then they very porous!
Man on island tells multi-nation continent: 'stop all boats and problem solved' !
I came back through the channel tunnel last week and the problem is a major one. The media does not tell the full story. It is much much MUCH worse.
Man from other Island tells people on this Island. Your multi nation has more patrol boats than my Island had. If we can stop them why can't you ?
//"Europe's external borders are already closed. "//

If they are why do we still have a problem?
//"Europe's external borders are already closed. "//

simple observation from the beach at Lesbos would give the lie to that one.
Have you seen how tightly controlled Australia (and NZ) are about anything being brought through their borders (before the migrant crisis)? You can't even bring in an apple. Different outlook and culture stretching back a long way before the current problem makes it easy to be tough.

I bet they never let you do traffic point duty in the good old days .....

I don't think he does actually: the migrant boats aren't shipping up in Blighty (which funnily enough comes originally from the Arabic) )as a rule

see my reply @1000. Lampedusa,Lesbos are places inthe muti nation EU are they not. We have a patrol boat in the Med. We are using it as a cruise liner. Mr Abbott is telling us that his boats go backwards as well.
Give him hell itch

I dont think retro has realised there is a LAND border between syria and turkey

so the EU isnt really islandy - bit of a technical point I admit
I assumed by 'people on this island' you meant 'people in the U.K.'
But it seems you are on a lighting fast island hopping tour of the Med ('enjoy it while you can before Tony's advice gets carried out' would be my advice ;-) )
Itch have you seen Lesbos this week ?

no wonder even the women refuse to live there now !

( historical - literary comment rather than sexist )

can you imagine writing bodry in the rain - uuugh !
You have to ask ?
Whilst it is true that Turkey has a short-ish land border with Greece and Bulgaria, this would entail migrants from Syria to Europe passing through Istanbul and across the Bosphorus. I don’t recall seeing footage of Istanbul with thousands upon thousands of migrants passing through. Some have made it to the small border town of Edirne but they are being turned back by the Turks and some removed to camps in southern Turkey. The vast, vast majority of migrants leaving Turkey for Europe travel by boat. The same can obviously be said for those travelling from North Africa.

As a result the Australian PM’s remarks are entirely appropriate. As far as this issue goes the same problem faces Europe as faces Australia: migrants arriving by boat. The difference is, as has been explained, Australia keeps them out, Europe lets them in and wonders what to do with them after they have arrived. None of the problems of migrants roaming across mainland Europe would be evident if they were not allowed to land. When they arrive in Lesbos it is quite clear where they left from – Mainland Turkey. They should be returned there forthwith. If the EU wants to solve this problem the answer does not lie in deciding what to do with tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people landing illegally. The answer lies in preventing them in the first place and there is not the slightest indication that ways to achieve this are being considered.

The EU’s philosophy in handling this crisis has, predictably, spectacularly misfired. It was quite obvious when Frau Merkel effectively welcomed allcomers that the floodgates, already under stress, would be stormed. So it has proved. The Euromaniacs have once again shown that they have no idea to to run a whelk stall, let alone a continent and the sooner the UK extracts itself from the mess the sooner we will have less obligation to take in migrants who, even if denied access here initially, in the fullness of time will be granted EU citizenship and free rein to settle here..
Prudie, big difference between OZ & here, they have the balls to carry what they say through.
