Thanks AOG...I missed the previous post.

My point in raising this though is to point out that Meacher, a popular MP, held the seat for Labour in May with a 14,738 majority with UKIP and the Tories, almost neck and neck in second place.

It seems we are to have the first test of Corbyn, dave and Farage, since May, in about 4 weeks time.

As I said...could be very interesting !

I wonder if Farage himself will have yet another go at getting into the House of Commons ?
\\\\As I said...could be very interesting ! \\\

It could mikey...........but i doubt it.
Labour win with 10,000+ majority, second UKIP and 3rd Tory.

What does the "Electoral College" have to say?...;-)
Strange things can happen at by elections, but I am not sure anything will here.

In May UKIP took second place from the Tories, but they were nearly 15,000 votes behind.

Obviously because it is a by election the majority will be slashed, but I suspect Corbyn style Old Labour will be welcomed in a place like Oldham, and that the Labour vote will stand up.

Afternoon Sqad...nice lunch at your Club I hope !

My predictions are much the same as yours by the way.
I don't think Farage will stand as a candidate, because it would be a very difficult seat for UKIP to win.

Gromit...with his track record, every seat would be difficult for him to win !
Let the battle begin,

/// UKIP have attacked the insensitive move, with party boss Nigel Farage telling The Sun: “We wouldn’t have expected this from Labour, but if Labour want to break convention and campaign before Mr Meacher is buried, then so be it”. ///

I seem to recall that his widow, Lady Meacher, played a important role in the famous Lords debate of this time last week, just a few days after her husband has passed away. So I guess we can take our example from her.

I rather liked Meacher: he always presented his views with great clarity.
RIP.

Yes, I did as well VE. All the praise after his death was very fulsome indeed.
Lets hope Labour can use this to their advantage.
// We wouldn’t have expected this from Labour, but if Labour want to break convention //

I rather get the impression likes breaking conventions and traditions. Not sure why the convention is to wait several weeks for an MP to be buried before starting the process of replacing them. It means the constituency is unrepresented for a couple of months.
* Corbyn * likes to break convention.

I agree Gromit.
My guess is the UKIP candidate will be the Deputy leader Paul Nuttall who stood in the neighbouring Oldham East by election in 2011.
