/// They will be given housing, legal protection, access to employment, education and expert medical care as part of the vulnerable persons resettlement scheme (VPR). After five years they can apply to remain in the UK. ///

They should be so lucky, some of our own sleep on the streets, no automatic legal protection for us, lack of jobs, already crowded schools, and an overstretched NHS. As well as an increase in the threat of terrorism

But never mind all that, at least some will still say "doesn't it make one feel proud"?

Well if we have an obligation I just hope they are persecuted Christian Syrians and no more Moslems. We have too many mosques here as it is and I am sick of reading about the woes of this Judeo Christian country in our daily papers caused by Islam and it's followers.

More interesting reading.

Why isn't there a special package for our troops when they come back needing special help such as this?
"so can someone explain,in Scotland we have a housing shortage thousands waiting for a house,"

There's an even bigger housing shortage in Syria (see video above)

The point has been made before, but the Paris attackers, for example, were all French or Belgian. Admittedly one of them seems to have smuggled themselves back with refugees, but that is a failing of border control and security services not speaking to each other
"We didn't we stood and fought. "

There is no comparison between the war in Britain in the 1940s and what is happening in Syria. In any case, in Britain in the 1940s people DID flee, quite justifiably and rightly, when the bombs fell: children were sent to the countryside, and during air raids people in towns had air raid shelters.
AND, we had a government that was on our side!

And stop watching Putin TV :-)
We are all very grateful that you did chose to fight but we did move citizens and some did flee the country. I guess both videos prove that war never changes.

/// There is no comparison between the war in Britain in the 1940s and what is happening in Syria. ///

And you would know that would you, were you around during the 1940s? (No, I thought not).

/// In any case, in Britain in the 1940s people DID flee, quite justifiably and rightly, when the bombs fell: children were sent to the countryside, ///

'SOME', children were sent to the countryside, but even then, they still remained in 'THEIR' country.

/// and during air raids people in towns had air raid shelters. ///

A sheltering of corrugated iron, or even a brick building with a slab of concrete for a roof, not to say "a government that was on our side", wasn't a guarantee of complete safety.
to be fair AOG, you have not been to Syria either.
Do you think historians shouldn't have an opinion on history because they wasn't there?
There's a housing shortage, or more accurately a population excess, all over the UK.

What now ? Presumably we give them a passport and put them on a flight to Germany; who apparently loves attracting extra population. Who knows, the Germans may even reimburse the air fare in gratitude.

It may have been said but I have never understood it.
They were children of immigrants born and bred in France/Belgium, two fantastic countries and yet they import evil carnage. What possible reason could they have for that?

Now please explain to me ichkeria how saying they were French or Belgian is somehow better than if they were say a recent Syrian immigrant?
Possibly because it would give comfort that the issue was already with them rather than due to some foolishness of allowing a deteriorating situation from recent decisions. In fact whether recent arrivals were involved or "merely" replacements doesn't really change much in the longer term. What's done is done.
If they can speak English they might be a bit surprised that they can't understand the locals.

You couldn't possibly know that.

ummmm

/// Do you think historians shouldn't have an opinion on history because they wasn't there? ///

Certainly they should be allowed an opinion, but whether or not that opinion is a true interpretation of what actually took place, is completely a different matter altogether.

Where your indigenous people are concerned, there are always shortages, but where foreigners are concerned it is the country of plenty.

Come to think about it though, perhaps that is why there's not much left for us?

Politicians will not find themselves on any fast track by helping their own.
High profile, scared and ragged people guarantee coverage.
If they back the wrong horse they can always apologise unreservedly, draw a line under it and move on.
In the end, our elected leaders have only one interest and that's themselves.
