Came across this and thought it was worth sharing:
http://www.dw.com/en/dalai-lama-on-paris-attacks-work-for-peace-and-dont-expect-help-from-god-and-governments/a-18852858

Above all I think the points made by the Dalai Lama about working together to avoid wars is worth lots of consideration.

Not sure what you mean, to be honest. Can war with islamists be avoided? Can you turn a blind eye to the horrors they perpetrate?
It's worth no consideration whatsoever. It demonstrates a complete lack of understanding as to the type of 'war' we are in. He comments:

'I disagree. I think that only a small percentage of people subscribe to the violent discourse. We are human beings, and there is no basis or justification for killing others. If you consider others as brothers and sisters and respect their rights, then there is no room for violence.
Furthermore, the problems that we are facing today are the result of superficial differences over religious faiths and nationalities. We are one people.'

Which demonstrates his profound misunderstanding of the issues.
I think he has a point. Only a very small minority of Muslims supported what happens in Paris, and to try to suggest anything different is ignorant. Muslims were killed in London in 2005 and Muslims were killed in Paris.
Mikey
Yes. Muslims killed in London and now Paris. The latest bit of helpful advice from IS HQ is when you blow your bombs in London try not to kill the Muslims please.

Svejk: I think the DL is suggesting that conventional military approaches won't resolve the problem, either of IS or of other problems, for example fundamentalist christianity as manifested in the south of the USA (my examples, not DLs)
He isn't suggesting turning a blind eye - rather turning very open eyes onto the problems.
Zacs: he's a world leader and highly respected, with a large following, so I think dismissing the ideas out of hand is narrow-minded. President Obama is entitled to head the push for destruction by any means - isn't the DLs approach one of these means?
Retrocop: off topic again - you need to make a thread to pursue your own point, cheers.
Why are you 'having a go' at retro. Do you suffer from eye problems?
Pardon me for breathing.!!
He's not highly respected by me! And I have demonstrated using his own words why his opinion should bear no weight. How you come to the conclusion that that's 'narrow minded' I'm not sure. Being narrow minded is accepting his words without understanding (or at least, challenging) his airy-fairy views.
It's so annoying when people like you, and it's always people like you, try to conflate IS with Christian Fundamentalists, Catholics, etc, etc. How many people have the latter beheaded this year? How many your Islamist friends?
Mikey, //Only a very small minority of Muslims supported what happens in Paris//

How do you know how many supported it? I had a quick look and although I found plenty of reports of Muslims condemning the recent atrocities, I couldn’t find numbers supporting them. I did, however, find a Wiki page concerning the Charlie Hebdo slaughters, and it seems plenty of Muslims supported that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Hebdo_shooting

I think you’re spinning – again.
Like a whirling dervish N? Weren't they Islamists?
No, not spinning, just expressing my opinion...sorry it doesn't accord with yours !
There's nothing to consider. When one side has no intention of working towards peace - in fact quite the opposite – any attempt at a peaceful solution is futile. There is no ‘middle way’.
Mikey, //just expressing my opinion//

So it's only an opinion. Thought so.
Naomi.....There is no evidence that the majority of Muslims support the murderous attacks in London and Paris. But carry on with your vitriol if you want to !
Mikey, I said nothing about the majority. You declared categorically that //Only a very small minority of Muslims supported what happens in Paris.// You have no evidence to support that. No vitriol from me.

Naomi - regarding Mikey's point - surely if the majority of Muslims in Paris and elsewhere supported the actions of the terrorist murderers, Europe would now be on fire from end to end.

Svejk, plenty of other world faiths have been utterly vile to their neighbours. Recent past, Europe? Try Bosnia. And please tell me more about people like me, I'm all for self knowledge. Or are you just trying to be unpleasant rather than having a debate?

Zacs, you disagreeing with the DL is great but I'm guessing on the global scale, despite what you say, his word carries more weight than yours. You can't really support an argument that runs, I disagree therefore he doesn't count.

Retrocop has a sad track record of diverting threads into personal vitriol, and I'd rather keep the debate on topic on the thread.
Mosaic, I haven't simply said ' I disagree therefore he doesn't count.' I've given a quote to demonstrate that his ideas are so out of touch as to be ridiculous. He cites 'superficial differences'. If he thinks Wahabbism is only superficially different to western thinking then he needs to educate himself.
//Retrocop has a sad track record of diverting threads into personal vitriol, and I'd rather keep the debate on topic on the thread.//

I have joined in several posts today plus provided a lot of crossword assistance.I have not been vitriolic in any including this one.I am sorry. I didn't realise your posts were so exclusive .
