No
That'll be great for tourism...
Well Ummm it is winter so I suppose the icecream men and women and chip vans can sell to the armed forces on the beaches!
No, Winston.
Maybe not armed Police, but perhaps one of these private security firms that are popping up all over. They could keep the beaches safe and secure from people trying to get over on boats.
Private security firms = thugs for hire
Islay - lol!
How many beaches are there and how many soldiers are needed to patrol each one?
And that would be paid for by...........?
The length of coastline of Great Britain plus its principal islands is about 19,491 miles. How many of our forces would that need?
Hey - I work for a private security firm :-)
2 soldiers per mile?

Well I suppose the OP would say that at least the MOD cannot carry out their cutbacks! Also, would all service soldiers be allowed to patrol the beaches or just the 'British' ones?
I think they are only bothered about the beaches around the Kent coastline -I doubt people traffickers are going to come form Calais to the UK via Blackpool
Actually I remember a scientist on TV saying that will all the tiny inlets, nooks and crannies the coastline is in theory of infinite length, but in practice, even if ignore some are parts we are certainly talking about several thousand miles
Ummm - exactly!! ;-)
I know! Bring back the home guard! Problem solved.
Lol...
It would just transfer the problem in many cases I think, Retrochic- these people smugglers have to make a living
Zacs -that's not such a bad idea
Brirish people trafficker wanted on France is caught and faces justice. Result.
So why send thousands of British troops to freeze to death on our beaches?
