It is very difficult for people to admit that they are ex-Muslim, TTT. This is mainly because the other adherents of their ex-religion believe it to be an impossibility.
I explained and explained and explained to classes that religion (unlike race) was an option and that one could choose which one to belong to, or even choose none at all. To a person the Muslim pupils accepted that Christians, anyone, could become a Muslim - but it was beyond their comprehension that a Muslim could become a Christian. It could have had something to do with the fact that renouncing Islam is, effectively, a death sentence.
I would hope that the hash-tag might be helpful to any Muslim with doubts. There used to be 'safe houses' in Bradford for converts, I expect that they still exist and in other areas too.
