The opposite was and is being argued, for example, when discussing Iran's nuclear industry, i.e. possession of nuclear arms must be limited to the "club" in order to eliminate the risk of their being used wantonly - by other than "us" who of course need them to maintain a "balance" in addition to "defending" ourselves (wantonly ? - oh, no, would "we" ever do such a thing, please, "we" are civilised whereas "they" of course are not).
When Americans trot out the 2nd Amendment, it makes me wonder what the Founding Fathers would make of it, did they intend children to shoot their school-mates etc? I think they'll be spinning in their graves. They also never intended women and black people to have equality, so to quote the Constitution is a convenience for the murderers.
