Today's By-Election
This seems to have slipped into nothingness. I hesitate to post because I can't do links; but there has been a by-election today, which, until the other day, occupied a lot of thought, and debate. Nothing has been heard of it here. Does anyone have any information? Turnout? Exit polls? Bit baffled. :)

One projection in the DTel, a Con or UKIP take and on the expected % split, projected forward to 2020 and the G-Election, Labour under Corbyn would secure only 73 seats in the House..... speculation of course but a bit of a sharp pull-up, perhaps.....

It became apparent at the beginning of the week that there wasn't going to be an upset, or UKIP victory, so the Tory press lost interest.
There was a funny piece by Farage in one paper about UKIP stealing the North like the SNP stole Scotland from Labour, but by the time it was published, it was obviously pie in the sky.

jourdain I waited until your thread had run its course. Of course you can post links. It is a bit late now to go through it. If you ask how to in Technology- computers you will have people in the 'bank' only too willing to take you through it. You will need to say what sort of device you are using, pc, tablet laptop etc. If you are using a mouse, or touchscreen or laptop cursor control. You will have it cracked in seconds and can test the process on this site without anyone judging you. Help will always be given to those who ask.
I'm useless on computers, jourdain, and couldn't 'do' links. Then someone on here showed me in plain language and it was simple. (it would have to be)
If you look at the top of this page there will be a box with this in it:
http:// m.thean swerban k.co.uk /News/Q uestion 1460217 -2.html
Possibly in white on a black background. Put the arrow on the box and 'left click'. It will turn blue.
Then 'right click' and a box will appear with a few choices including Copy. (point the arrow at copy & left click)
That's now 'stored' until you want to paste it somewhere.
When you want to paste it on AB, click on answer, put the arrow in the 'answer box' and 'right click' again. This time when the box appears it will have 'paste' in the options. (point the arrow and left click and what you copied will appear in the answer box)
^written down, it sounds much more complicated than it is.

Oh, thank you svjek - and togo. But you say things like 'paste' and I look for a glue stick. I don't know how to do that. The next problem I have is 'how one switches from one window to another whilst retaining a foothold in the first to which to transfer it (I think that is what you have to do)'. This is not the first effort.
I began years ago with a word processor (having got typing qualifications and indeed earned my living as a shorthand/typist before training as a teacher) and soon discovered that although I went iin with a positive mindset, I could not do such things as tabulations (which I was noted for). Then computers arrived.
Phew! About that time I moved to France. Before that I spent whatever time I was forced to cover computer lessons frantically counting the roller balls in the 'mice' (the kids nicked them and I was accountable) and being unable to answer their questions without diving into the technician's office.

I've just lost confidence and hope (hit the wrong key and submitted, sorry).
It seems to be getting worse as things get more complicated. Now I can't print anything off - our printer is 'going home' and fuzzy. MrJ2 has bought a browser which is 'cloud-ready' whatever that is and it won't recognise our printer. I don't even know what printer to buy to replace the fuzzy one and it
may not talk to my lap-top. If I ask people they go all vague and say things including the words 'should' and 'may' - I can't afford that!
I've even almost stopped emailing (I used to do lots) because I moved to gmail and it's so different and I find it very complicated. I was OK with orange.fr.
It's not much help to say that I can read Chaucerian English is it? I need to find a course, I think :) x Thanks again - I know I need some help here, but people start with assuming that I know things which I don't - e.g. 'cut & paste'.
