I've always been proud of the way our police could usually carry out their duties without being armed, but the situation is totally different now.How can we expect our policemen and women to handle the situations that are happing with increasing frequency armed with only tasers and batons?I must reluctantly agree with AOG it's time to arm our police.

Which is exactly what I was suggesting. Airstrikes on their own are utterly useless. The US has been bombing for 3 years in which time ISIS has greatly expanded in area and manpower. Our bombs are too little too late.

We really do need to wipe ISIS off the planet. But we won't do from 3,000 miles away.

This time,terrorist attack or not,Peter it was a knife,but I'm thinking more in the style of a Paris like attack.Will you still think it's a bit over the top to have armed police when we've got a hundred prople killed on the streets of a British city when perhaps a couple of armed police if they couldn't stop it entirely could have at least helped reduced the casualties.The way things are now-a-days I think it's not so much a case of "If" it happens as "when" and I think we should be prepared for it.As I said I've never been in favour of armed police but sadly the days when PC Dixon could sort things out with words or at the worst a baton have long gone.
