Ok ok thanks for not suing us but surely Gitmo is an American operation! So on what basis is the UK culpable anyway?

Thank goodness it will be the Russians and Syrians dealing with these vermin in Syria or we'd have hundreds of these 'charity workers' returning from there in a couple of years.
Shame he wouldnt go back to saudi....odd in fact...theres a few people involved here all guilty of something !...do i care though...NOPE....

hes even said he doesnt want to see any more or any further prosecutions of those involved blah blah ...again...odd...unless ...."you want your compo mateyboy and a nice council house blah blah ? then read this (hands him a piece of paper)and stick with the story and youll get your million...
It is nowhere near enough to simply want someone to be guilty, that is called bias, and a number of other things as well.
TTT...without reading all the posts on this, it appear that the British were present when he was tortured ( oh sorry...interrogated )..dave has said that Britain does not condone torture, so why did our Governments, of both political hues, stand by and watch this man be detained for 14 years without charge of trial ?

If you haven't listened to the full interview he gave BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme, I suggest you do so.

It that where he says he's not sure a Brit was present Mikey?
Baldric....do you honestly think that the British authorities were not aware that this British resident was being held for 14 years, and what happened to him during that time ?

When I heard his interview this morning, there was no doubt that he knew that a Englishman was present during his ordeal.
"When I heard his interview this morning, there was no doubt that he knew that a Englishman was present during his ordeal. "

if youve no doubt then obviously its true then....pffftttt
Mikey
He, himself, had some doubt on BBC news last night. He faltered, thought and arrived at about 88% ish

He didn't sound 100% sure to me tbh.
Retrocop...when I heard it this morning it was 90%, but even it it was your 88%, I still means that he was still only 12% not sure.
He seems less sure than you do though and he was allegedly there. You state you have no doubt. Lol

PP:"Surprising 3T - you seem to accept he was tortured but not by the right people ....

doesnt a little bit of you - your fingernails perhaps- tell you we shouldnt be doing that ..... rather than - I know! I'll leavethe room and the torture can continue but I can then deny it all .....if I dont see then it didnt occur "

mikey: "TTT...without reading all the posts on this, it appear that the British were present when he was tortured ( oh sorry...interrogated )..dave has said that Britain does not condone torture, so why did our Governments, of both political hues, stand by and watch this man be detained for 14 years without charge of trial ? You both seem to want a debate on whether torture took place and what a witness to such torture should reasonably do. I'm making no comment on policy regarding interrogation/torture. How can a witness to something suable themselves be suable is all I'm asking.
Retrocop...you have misread what I posted. I said that "there was no doubt that he knew that a Englishman was present during his ordeal"

No doubt that he knew.

I wasn't there but the Enquiry that has been set up will decide whether Britain was involved or not. At present the evidence seems to imply that Britain was.
TTT ( 18:24 )..But he has said that he doesn't intend to sue Britain, so we appear to be chasing our tails on that issue.

At the very least, Britain was aware that this British resident was being held without charge or trial for 14 years....there is no doubt about that...they cannot possibly have NOT known.

Perhaps Britain should have done more to get him released ?
You are spinning yet again Mikey. I have not heard him say he is categorically 100% sure .Believe his uncertainties if you wish. I am sure he will be 100% positive ny tomorrow after a brief whispers in his ear.
Question Author
yes but how/why could he if did want to?
Rero...not spinning at all. He statement about British involvement deserves to be investigated, as indeed it is at present.
The reason we were spun that he left the UK for Afghanistan was a charitable cause to help build a girl's school in Taliban/Al Queda domain ?
Tonight he says he left the comfort of his adopted country, of which he is not a citizen, because his wife did not feel comfortable with the comments directed at her in the UK because she wore typical muslim female attire.
Why take her to Afghanistan? He is a Saudi citizen isn't he? Take her home.
He freely admits to be a friend of a notorious Al queda firebrand. ???
Mr Shakaar has a lot more explaining to do before I get mugged into believing he is a hapless victim.
Did we try German POWs in a court of law, Italians?
Very hard to prove criminal cases against enemy combatants.

yup sxhweik we sure did - Nuremberg trials

but in fact POWs werent much prosecuted as a result of the Geneva and Hague conventions

and doesnt apply to Syria as we are not at war with syria

and no Gitmo could not happen in UK law as it is settled that the outlying posts such as Gitmo's equivalent ARE subject to English Law ( unlike their american counterparts which is kinda weird - I have never understtood that )
