You're welcome, chaps.

Speaking as a female who is pretty well acquainted with the Arab world, in my experience Arab men usually want value for money. That's another fact of life.
Even if a woman is paid £1m for a certain type of sex she has still been raped if the man forces another sort of sex on her when she said 'no'.

It's outdated (I hope) attitudes that have this swell in historic sex abuse cases being dealt with today. The authorities didn't act on the victims statements at the time because it was felt they were 'asking for it' or 'got what they deserved' even where those victims were children.

You missed out 'community cohesion', hc.

I was going to keep out of this one, until you came along with your usual utopian dreams.

/// as long as individuals accept that this is standard behaviour, and it is understood as 'the way things are ...' then nothing is going to change - either from the point of view of women who are offering themselves in unsavoury situations, or men who think that women's bodies can be purchased for a Rolex watch. ///

How do you Mr Hughes hope to change something that has been taking place from time immemorial, are you naive enough in believing that somewhere in the distant future a certain class of female is going to wake up and say "selling my body in exchange for cash and wonderful gifts has got to stop, I am going to get a job at TESCOs?

And those filthy rich guys are going to say "hey it is all wrong, I am no longer going to use my wealth to buy me all that I wish for.

/// Thanks for the elucidation - I can now add 'racist' to 'misogynist' in recognition of the cavalier way you group people together into small sub-sections of humanity based on your deeply cynical view of the world. ///

You do so like to wheel out that racist cart when your back is against the wall, I suppose in your world you would class it as racist to condemn certain Arab states for their acts against humanity?

Please, no please, sir. Check out what happened in Rotherham.

My point was not to do with women who are working as prostitutes - that is an entirely different scenario, so no, I don't imagine that prostitution will die out anytime soon.

Please see my previous response.

I am not 'wheeling out the racist cart', and my back is not against any wall!

First of all - my point to retrocop that advising that all Arabs have no morals where money is concerned is, in my view racist, and I called him out for it - he is welcome to challenge my view if he wishes.

As to your supposition that I would class it as racist to condemn Arab states for acts against humanity - that is a stratospheric leap from the point I made, and utterly irrelevant in terms of this discussion.

We are discussing men's' attitudes to rape in the context of time and place - quite how you manage to shoehorn terrorism into that is a mystery to me!

Quite a lot of things have 'happened in Rotherham' - can you be a little more specific please?
I thought I had already accepted your apology for your unecessary name calling on this thread. Mysogonist, racist nasty bigot etc etc. You going to start up again?
I see we're doing role play now. Inadeqate sarky supply teacher's a good one.
retrocop - //I thought I had already accepted your apology for your unecessary name calling on this thread. Mysogonist, racist nasty bigot etc etc. You going to start up again? //

My apology was for my comment about it being good thing that you had retired.

Your comment that 'An Arab has no integrity when it comes to money' is - in my view, a racist observation, and I offer no apology for that view.

As I said to AOG during his standard missing-the-point response to me post, you are welcome to debate my view with me if you wish.

I believe I have a right to have a deeply cynical view of the world. I have probably seen more of the darker side of life in 30yrs than you have in a lifetime. I have seen the truly worst of society and the best but at least I have got out the office and experienced it. That you do not seem to come to terms with. Practical experience.!!
douglas - //I see we're doing role play now. Inadeqate sarky supply teacher's a good one. //

I, for one, have no idea what you are talking about!

Care to elucidate a little?
//My point was not to do with women who are working as prostitutes - that is an entirely different scenario, so no, I don't imagine that prostitution will die out anytime soon. //

No it is not a different scenario. Prostitutes can be raped or indecently assaulted as well and I have never said that it is OK to do so.
So less of the name calling please.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that some experience of life gives you the right to assess an entire race of people in a negative way - the very definition of racism.

I suggest that it does not.

And for the record - you have no idea of my experience of life - so that does not give you the right to assume the (highly dubious) moral high ground simply because your career gave you different - not superior, just different - life experience to me - at least as far as you assume anyway.
retrocop - ////My point was not to do with women who are working as prostitutes - that is an entirely different scenario, so no, I don't imagine that prostitution will die out anytime soon. //

I have never mentioned prostitutes, or prostutuion, except in response to AOG's off-the-point post responding to something he imagines I said.

So I have AOG coming in (wrongly) to defend you, and now you coming in (wrongly) to attribute a comment I made to AOG, as being addressed to you.

Just to clarify - I did not bring up the concept of prostitution at all - with either of you - so let's stick on thread shall we?
I fear we're being outdone by a master debater.
And when he's shown to be wrong, he just moves right on.
Well you tell us you worked in an office. The only male amongst a load of girls. You work for BT. You do the occasional interview with musicians for a publication that most people have never heard of.
I have not grouped a whole race together. I am saying the Arabs I have personally worked with have no morals with regards to money.
The Sutan of Brunei, Saudi Kings etc all have ,what we call, bag men running in their wake. These carry bags full of envelopes stuffed with various amounts of £50 notes to be given for services rendered. (Bribes in my book). I have never been bought but I have seen many a person who has.
I can speak with some knowledge on Arabs, their wealth and lack of integrity.
