I thought this was an opinion forum.

I thought I was being friendly when I said  ('You OK?) cos I hadnt seen any postings from you for a while.It was a friendly greeting - thats all.

I've read everthing I posted and didnt offend anyone - it is a subject too close to my heart to be flippant about.

P.S I have a son your age so I am way past trying to score points.Must be a generation gap thing.

I didn't see the "You ok?" as about my general well being, more as questioning my answers.

I never suggested you were being flippant. 

The generation gap does explain a lot yes.  I presume that you credit your son with intelligence and the ability to form mature opinions, even at such a "tender" young age.  I presume you credit his friends in a similar way.  Perhaps one day you'll be able to do that in a wider sense and extend it to other 22/23 year olds, perhaps myself included.  Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I'm stupid, wrong, naive or immature.  You don't need to have a child to have an opinion about paedolphilia.  Nor does being calm yourself, mean you can't recognise that others may make a less mature reaction and themselves turn to violence.

I didnt disagree with you at all.I only put forward my general opinion.

In time - you will realise that the world doesnt revolve round you and that because someone expresses an opinion it does not mean it is directed at anyone in particular.

Yes my son expresses his intelligence extremely well (just attained First Class Honours from HW) and of course I get on very well with him and listen to what he has to sayIt dissapoints me that you have takene this stand but it would be boring if we were all the same.

I daresay I thought my opinions and indeed myself were the most important things in the world at your age.Now lets be adult about this and draw a line in the sand.Wont visit again but I suppose you will play the sill game you played another time you had threw your rattle out the pram.

Obviously most sex offenders are the lowest of the low, but it also needs to be remembered that someone who mistakenly had sex with a 15 year old girl when she said she was older (for example) will get put on the register for the same time as other more serious ffenders.  I know it is still wrong, but is something that happens a lot in society and I don;t feel it is as anywhere near as bad as some of the other offences that land you on the register.

Just something to bear in mind.

dave m i have also been looking but have not found any. All sex offenders r monsters i was not hurt but others where by my father i just pray to god when he gets out in oct 2006 that he does not come looking for me as i have a 12yr old half sister and if he did anything to her as he has done to my other sister i would kill him.

ANDY HUGHES obviously you do not have children yourself, otherwise you would not have put such a ridiculously stupid answer like why would people want to know.

I have known of people whose children had been abducted by a peodophile and found them dead. And later found out that the peodophile had lived in the same block of flats.

And if you think that vigilaties are a bad thing against them then you are also wrong.

I think there should be a list, why should they be allowed to live out there lives as if they have never done anything wrong, yet the child they have abused has to go on living with that terrible memory. I do agree that it can get out of hand with the wrong people being named, but still dont we have a right to know who's out there and what there up to?
january_bug i think you have too much of an opinion on something you've never experianced and STOP being so patronising so what if someone cant spell or has typo errors were not on here to be corrected.

I myself sumbled across this because i wanted to know if the man who abused me as a child was on a list to warn people, but sadly there isnt one and it worries me because he is out there living his life and probably abusing other children.

why does anyone want to know anything, for peace of mind of course.

I just wish people would be more open minded and give a rats ass about whats going on around them!!!

i agree that a list of sex offenders should not be accessable to the public..

but..

i am a victim of sexual abuse and the man that did it to me for 3 years scared the crap out of me quite frankly.. when i finaly had the guts to say something to my mum (at the age of 12) the police got involved.. a few weeks later he started to stalk us.. broke into our car and stole items from the glovebox.. when we told the police they didnt really seem too bothered.

then when we heard nothing from him in months we finaly thought it was all over, he was living in our old abandoned house, with 13/14 year olds, supplying them cocaine and abusing them too. the police currently have no idea what so ever where he is or what he is up to.. so i dont know how you can say the police are doing their jobs and that we should trust them.. when the man that ruined my childhood.. walked scott free from court and is still up to his old sick tricks to this day.. i am now 18 and feel like he deserves what he never got in the first place.. does anyone agree with what im saying?

Interestingly, this is the norm in the US. According to Wiki "The information is often displayed on free public websites" (1), and a brief search I did turned up plenty of examples(2).
