At the risk of being controversial! Yes David Bowie was a Music Legend. We have lost many great musicians and other celebs. But why has the media gone overboard on DB, saying everyone will be devastated by his passing etc etc. It's top story all over the place. He was liked by many I know, but certainly not by everybody I feel sure.

He deserved his place in Pop History but......................

// As for JFK, I think vulcan's memory may be fading a bit, but that was near-total. //

Kennedy was a world game changer (Bay of Pigs) with more responsibility than Bowie or Ed Stewpot. Both entertainers. One sang and acted . The other played records of the other's songs. Both gave pleasure to a lot of people. Both nice people. No point in suttee and weep. You can still buy their music.
Do I want a day long requiem mass. No thankyou. I am sorry for all your grief.
With regards to any kind of music you have to be of a certain generation to appreciate it. I can understand older people not liking or being interested in David Bowie`s music. I was a child of the 70s so I quite liked David Bowie (soul music was my thing though) If my Mum was still alive and I talked to her today about David Bowie, she would remember him but she wouldn`t know what all of the fuss was about and she would probably say that his music was a din. I remember my Gran feeling the same over the Beatles. Each to their own.
it was vulcan who threw JFK in there, not me. However, if you're really upset I think you will find, despite all the hyperbole, that there are in fact numerous radio, TV and online channels that aren't mentioning him at all.

The price we pay for 24 hour rolling news?
At the risk of sounding even more controversial, much as I have nothing against the queen, I think Bowie's enrichment of our lives and culture far outstrips hers.
Tho I did really like that single she did with him in the early 80s

?
How have you come to that conclusion?
From my experience of talking to people. Would your Mum like the Sex Pistols?
She never mentioned liking them when she was alive. My daughter however thinks Bowie deserves his billing as one of the greats in music.
If anyone asked me who my favourite musician was I would say Glen Miller and his Band.If I was alive when his Norseman crashed I would appreciate the show that his band carried on in his absence in Paris but would get pretty upset if it dominated the media all day and evermore.
The late great Freddie Mercury will always have a place in my heart but was less surprised at his passing than with Bowie not knowing that he was Ill at all. David Bowie did some cracking songs IMO and a sad loss.
Apart from hearing it on radio news this morning I've seen nothing else about him. I've had the telly on all evening and seen nothing. If you are in a frenzy then you've been switching onto the wrong channels.
Maybe you're consuming too much media countrykid. I heard it in the radio as I drove to work and have just watched a brief half hour tribute programme at 7.30pm on BBC1. Not what I'd call a frenzy. Looking forward to more in depth programmes to follow, having been at work all day I can't get enough of it.
Yes it is way way over the top. But that's the state of the general public these days. Some things they can't get enough of. Excess adulation of recently deceased "heroes" being one of them.
Heroes? You mean like this?

'his death won't change the world .'
No but his life did.
Hero?? Reading the subtitles on hours of nonstop coverage today on TV some commentator described him as "a incredible hero for appearing on TV wearing a dress".
I am sorry for those of you in mourning but even if he did wear a dress on TV in the 70's to describe him as a hero is a mockery of true hero's who achieved much more for their fellow man and got paid peanuts for doing their heroic work. Lets get this into perspective.!
Media Frenzy.? Yes indeed. Three different OPs on this entertainer on AB running together at the moment plus what is on TV channels.
Get a grip he was just a singer. Wallowing in your personal nostalgia is fine, but don't thrust it down our throats. As for comparing her Majesty to the thin dude, laughable.
I agree with the op and others WHY?????????

Yes he was a famous pop star, and tried his hand at acting etc, but others more famous have passed on throughout the years, without this hysteria.

What kind of reaction can we expect when the likes of Paul McCartney, Cliff Richards etc pass away?

How many remember the founding father of British pop music, Lonnie Donegan (who I hear some ask) passing away?
If you don't like a thread stay away .... Cor blimey!
